We're interested in going to the February Caravan GTG at LaPaz County Park near Parker, AZ.
Can someone explain to me how we make reservations, or who we're supposed to contact to do this?  The letters I've received from the Caravan Club don't have any instructions in them -- other than the small form at the bottom that says to "cut off and turn in to the host tent."  But I would think they'd want to know how many people are planning on attending BEFORE we all get there.
The 2005 Schedule we received has telephone numbers of the parks where the various GTG's are being held -- are we supposed to call the PARK to make reservations on our own?  As I stated, the letters give absolutely no guidance in this matter.
Sure would appreciate some guidance on how we're supposed to proceed.

Linda and Earl,
Just show up!  I just attended my first Caravan GTG, the one at Live Oak Camp.  They average around 125 rigs.

Hi Linda and Earl, ...as Tom said, "Just Show Up"!!  He will probably also tell you that as "First Timers" you will be treated like royalty; you don't need to do a single thing about food or reservations or anything.  Just be there or be square!

You will be stopped at the host tent (in the Lazy Daze area of the campground -- LaPaz is huge); whatever volunteer is "on duty" at the time will identify you as a "First Timer,"  "Second Timer" or "old hand"; give you a packet of "stuff'; you pay the camp fees for however many days you'll be staying; they will contact an ambassador from the group that's hosting First Timers for that particular campout, and you will be escorted to that group's friendship circle.
During the GTG, announcements and Steve Tivey's weather report are made daily at 8:00 a.m. via Ch.30 on the CB radio you had the factory install, right?!!  If you don't have a CB, the "leader" of the host group will tell you what's happening, where and when. At some point in time during the event, Ron VanSoosten will bring you all together at an appointed time to "indoctrinate" you: tell you all you need to know about how the caravans work, your picture will be taken and your rig number assigned.   It's just too too easy and so much fun!

See you there -- looking forward to seeing you!

Hi Linda and Earl, ...as Tom said, "Just Show Up"!!

Thanks for the information!  I'm surprised that, with the number of rigs that apparently show up at these GTG's, they don't want people to make reservations!  Oh, well...guess we'll "just show up."

Nope, we didn't have the factory install a CB.  We already had a hand-held CB plus a Weather Radio, so didn't need to spend the money on the factory-installed one.  We don't travel with our CB on -- it gets turned on only if we're traveling with someone, or if there's a traffic backup (then we'll turn it on to find out what's going on -- like happened this fall as we were going over Tehachapi Pass -- turns out there was a Schwan's truck which had caught on fire!).

What are the dates of this GTG?  And where is the campground?  We'll be in Arizona in February and may be able to attend, if the dates work out.

Al, it would be wonderful to see youze guyz again!  Hope dates will fit into your plans:  February 23-27.  La Paz County Park is on the Arizona side of the Colorado River, "Parker Strip" area between Parker and Lake Havasu.
 http://lazydazecaravanclub.org/ will have more details/information.

Be sure to tell Anna the rockhounding in the area is excellent!

The dates are February 23 - 27.  La Paz County Park is 8 miles north of Parker on SR-95:

Linda and Earl,

Lorna is right, I was about to tell you that you'd be treated as royalty but my phone rang just at that time and so here I was, typing with one hand and holding on to the phone with the other. I cut it (the e reply) much too briefly by saying "just show up".  Thank you Lorna for telling it like it is.  We thought that by living in Northern California, we wouldn't be able to make many of the Caravans.
Now, we're looking at the schedule to see if we can't make more.

Recent new owner of a used LD here....

Is this the type of a get-to-gether that is restricted to original owners only?

Here I am 30 miles away and looking for opportunities to meet and mingle with fellow LDers....

What other gatherings are there....especially

Unfortunately, yes. It's not that they are snobbish--it's just that if they opened up the Caravan Club to all LD owners, it'd be next to impossible to find a campground that would hold them (and the factory, which provides financial support, would probably go broke! ;-).
However, there ARE Lazy Daze get-togethers in the west that are open to all LDers, and I'm sure the folks who live in that region will fill in the details.
Also note that the 2006 Golden Caravan (http://tinyurl.com/36yf4>) is open to *all* Lazy Daze owners, whether original or second-hand (or in my case, third-hand!).

Roger, I think you're in Quartzsite, too, right?  If you belong to the Escapees RV Club, I believe the Lazy Daze BOF will be having a get together sometime in January.  Don't know where they park, however -- maybe someone here knows.

I believe there are also one or two (perhaps more) California LD owners groups besides the Lazy Daze Caravan Group.  And, there is a Northwest LD owners group -- we joined this group last year when we attended the GTG in Sisters, OR.  Since we do a lot of traveling in the NW (Earl grew up in the Seattle area, and I lived in WA State from '69 through '85), we thought this would be a good one to join.

Is there also a Southwestern LD group?

Roger, et al - I just happen to have that info at hand. Here's the skinny.

This is one of the groups I was talking about that posts their locations in coordinates.
And there are a dozen or so Southern California Lazy Dazers who come over and camp together at one of the campgrounds, but I don't remember which one. Maybe there's someone on the list who goes there and could tell you.

We're curious.  Is anyone from the group planning to attend the LD caravan 2/23 thru 2/27?  We may be able to make it and are wondering who else might be there from  group   /noel/

Depending on how physical therapy on Barbara's new knee goes, we hope to be there at least a couple of days.  With the spectacular desert wildflower season that appears to be shaping up, we really want to get out in the LD.

At this moment Pat and I plan on being there, working our way up from Organ Pipe Natl Monument and the wildlife refuges north of Yuma.

Chris Are the wild flowers in Organ Pipe National Monument starting to bloom? It should be a great year for wild flowers. I was there in 97 or 98 and the wild flowers were incredible! Should be as good this year.

Scott, we just left this morning after 2 1/2 days there.  The flowers are gorgeous.  We took the 3 hr tour into the desert to see them and also drove the 22 mile desert loop.  Next week should be the best according to the park folks.  The desert is spectacularily green and lush (and it was pouring rain when we left).  They said it probably can't get any better.  I took a 5 mile hike into the desert and up to an old silver mine; what a great experience.  We were fortunate to have both days there without rain which has plagued our AZ trip.  With 4 days more of rain predicted, we decided to head home early rather than wait it out somewhere.  Unfortunately we will not get to the LD GTG north of Parker, AZ.

The campground at Organ Pipe is very nice - dry camping with plenty of space between units.  No generators except between noon and 4 pm.  Anyone who can get there in the next weeks will be in for a treat.

Why does the factory provide financial support to this Caravan, and in which way?

I don't suppose it'd be very helpful to say "Because it's the factory-sponsored Caravan Club." ;-) But that's about the size of it. This is an amenity that Lazy Daze provides to original owners, presumably in order to foster camaraderie and brand loyalty.

"...and in which way?"
I don't know the details, but perhaps somebody who's in the Caravan Club can answer.

Andy, Thanks so much for your anwsers to the question regarding the So Cal LD Club. We just returned from the DVD gathering and have been catching up on the messages. FYI - The factory provides very little financial support to the club. Mainly the cost of mailing the newsletter and other small printing cost. The club is no longer "sponsopred" by the factory as we are self supporting. I do receive tremendous moral support from Ed, Steve and all the rest of the staff at the factory, they are behind me 100% and a wonderful bunch to be associated with. Paul Newton, 48 years ago was the founder of the club and the very first Wagon Master. He set down back then that only orginal owers could become members - although way back then all were original owners! The club grew to the size where they averaged 250-300 rigs per campout.  Finding places to put that many rigs 9 times a year was a huge task. Now we average about 125-160 per campout and more owners are wanting more conveniences than dry camping as it was entirely in the past. So finding sites with hook-ups to accommodate that many is again a huge problem. For that reason and out of love and respect for Paul, as long as I have the responsiblity as Wagon Master, we will hold true to his vision.
We would love to have all Lazy Dazers join us but the numbers are just not manageable on a monthly basis. That is one big reason why I have come up with the Clubs 50th Anniversary Caravan where every Lazy Daze owner can come together to share our love for the finest Class "C" motorhome made.
Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to inform you as to the whys and wherefores. Hope this filled in the blanks.

Rosemary Webb Wagon Master So Cal Lazy Daze Caravan Club

PS  We all had a wnderful time in spite of the history making weather. It was awsome to see the valley in a much different condition then we're used to. All 28 rigs returned home safe and sound. Looking forward to next year!
