Oven pilot light

We are having trouble keeping the oven pilot light on.  It lights ok, but once you release the oven control knob it goes out.  We have held the knob in for over 3 minutes and when released the flame goes out.
It has worked occasionally, but nothing consistent.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

This sort of problem can occur if the flame is too far from the sensor, from a soot accumulation, too small a pilot flame, etc.
Examine the area - most such problems will give a visual clue.

Also check any sensor attachment at the control valve - the connection could have loosened, if removeable.

In addition to Steve's suggestions, I've found that after disconnecting the gas lines or coming out of storage and turning the gas on for the first time it takes some time to purge the air. Try lighting a burner on hi for 30-60secs before lighting the oven pilot. It can save you a lot of time lighting and relighting. (The BBQ butane lighter with the long metal nose is worth its cost for this task.)

Close windows, vents, hold your breath and don't let anyone move around. Lighting an RV oven has to be one of the most frustrating tasks. We rented a couple of Class C's before buying and had the same problem with those ovens. We're getting better at it.
