Interior Cleaning March 17, 2001, 05:52:08 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2687We are new to RVing but have been tent camping for over thirty years. We will be buying a new LD RK next summer when we retire. This site offers its members a lot of info. on LDs. My questions may seem elementary to many members. I will most likely have to clean the inside of our LD for my husband and myself. Some of the questions may be answered in the LD manual but we still have questions and will not order till next year.1) What experiences have persons had with small vacuums and what kind? 2) How do you control insects? 3) What chemicals do people used for cleaning the tub surrounds and bathroom? 4) What do you use to clean kitchen stove and oven?I also have love the info. on peoples trips (ie Alaska) and photos of peoples trips. Hope people post more adventures using their LD!Thank you again for all past answers and a great site. It certainly helps us beginners.Bobbie

But later we added a dustbuster, and now we hardly ever use the dirt devil - the dustbuster has a much greater vacuum power. So far we have had no major insect problems. We use "Off" on our exposed skin when in mosquito country. For cleaning the tub surrounds and bathroom, we use mainly glass cleaner. When the bottom of the tub gets some ground-in dirt, we use NON ABRASIVE automobile polish - takes off the dirt and protects the tub.For the stove we use mainly glass cleaner with an occasional need for 409. I lift out the top and clean it outdoors regularly. So far we have not had to use oven chemicals, although even though we bake frequently, we have not had many spills. A sheet of aluminum foil on the oven bottom has done the trick.Hope this helpsGus Weber
Interior Cleaning Reply #2 – March 18, 2001, 12:21:00 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2693Gus,Thanks for the info on things to buy from LD.I have purcased an Ultra Dirt Devil. I believe it is like yours or an upgrade which has a little more vacuum power. I have not even opened the box yet, waiting to get the LD. After reading your post, I am now wondering if I should take it back to WalMart and get a dust buster. I got it thinking the rotating brush might be needed in carpet cleaning.Lanny
Interior Cleaning Reply #3 – March 18, 2001, 01:41:58 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2694I returned my ultra dirt devil and bought a little Hoover.. same size but twice as much power. It does a good job on the carpet. I bought it at J.C.Penneys. It doesn't need bags either.Karen

Interior Cleaning Reply #5 – March 18, 2001, 05:17:27 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2697As for returing the Dirt Devil - I think were I in your shoes, I would return it for a dust buster. We got the super model with the removeable batteries and carry a spare set of batteries (charged) for long boondocking periods, although so far we haven't even had to use those). The Dirt Devil brushes do indeed do a good job on the carpeting, but these days we use the home vacuum after a long trip, and only use the dust buster on the road. Should you find this is inadequate for your habits (mud on the shoes or whatever) you can always add a dirt devil later.Good luckGus Weber
