Holding tank size March 09, 2001, 06:05:48 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2555As we get down to the nitty-gritty of the details right before we order (we're still deciding on a floor plan--quite a large nitty-gritty, huh?)we noticed on the spec. sheet that there is a difference in the size of the holding tanks and fresh water tank between the 23 1/2 front lounge and 23 1/2 twin/king models. The front lounge fresh water is 60, and grey water and black water are each 30 and 28 respectively, while the twin/king is 50 fresh, and 24 for both the grey and black water tanks. As we are new to RV'ing (were tent and vw van campers many years ago) we're a little clueless as to whether this makes a difference--substantial, or otherwise. We plan on boondocking, but most likely for days (not weeks) at a time. We will be traveling all over the U.S., Canada, and to Alaska, quite likely for months at a time. There are just the 2 of us. Any input from you more experienced folks is, once again, most appreciated. Thanks again, Sandy
Holding tank size Reply #1 – March 09, 2001, 08:45:18 pm Yahoo Message Number: 2559There's just the two of us too but when we dry camp, fresh water is important altho we're conservative --Grey water fills alot faster than black water. Grey collects dishwater, shower, wash water, etc., whereas black water is the toilet. Thus the need for more capacity on the grey water BUT one can drain off grey water and dump it in a dump receptacle whereas you can't do that w/ black water OR use wash basins and dump your excess grey water (washing/dishes) into the black water. Make sure you never ever dump black water into grey tho. One has to learn to do dishes maybe once a day and do what is called GI showers to conserve.Hope this helps!

When dry camping, there is NEVER enough water and gray tank capacity. But, you make it do, and either model has enough to be workable for several days of conservative use. Our '83 FL has 25 gray and 46 fresh, and that lasts the two of us through four days, with two Navy showers apiece, and very conservative dishwashing techniques. Others could probably do the same on 10 gallons less, a few need 10 gallons more.Steve
