I just returned from Montclair and a visit to the LD factory. I ordered the 26.5' rear kitchen with delivery in Sept or Oct. I went there with every intention of getting the 30'. The more models I looked at, the more confused I became. Had to leave, cool off, think a lot, and go back the next day.
My son and daughter were with me and they were a tremendous help in sorting out the pros and cons of each floorplan. I think I would be just as happy with any one of them.

Everyone on this forum has been a big help in my decision to buy a Lazy Daze. Over the last few months I have been a faithful reader of every post. Seems like every time I came up with a question, before I got around to posting it, within days someone would post the answer.
Thanks to all of you.

Betty

Congratulations on picking out your new baby.
September sounds a long way off, but it'll pass pretty fast. Must be really exciting to finally pick out exactly what you want. Did you get any extras added on? Sarah in Seattle

Wow, you did exactly the same thing we did. We went to Montclair on Feb. 7th with the belief that we were going to place an order for the 30IB and came away with an order for the 26.5RK. We are supposed to pick ours up in September. I sent you an e-mail so we can compare things like delivery times etc. as time passes.

I can't say I picked out exactly what I want. I liked something about all the floor plans, and found something wrong with each of them. Lots of compromising and using process of elimination.

I got the entertainment center. I didn't think I would use the cabover bed. It would be for guests, and I don't anticipate having a lot of overnighters. Also, with the TV in the middle rather than on the side, seems like it will be easier to watch from all over the lounge.

I

ordered the solar panel. I told Ed I wanted two panels, he said I didn't need two. I notice Valerie got two.
I guess I wasn't forceful enough, but I'm new at this and still don't know how many I need. I have read that using a portable solar panel you can be parked in the shade and put the panel where you want it.

I'm getting the outside shower, insulation for holding tanks, CD changer. A swamp cooler was on my want list, but of course! I left my list at home. Ed didn't mention it as an option and I didn't remember it, so I'm not getting it. My plans are to not be where it is horribly hot, so it should be okay.

I got the barrel chairs in lieu of one of the couches. I didn't get the satellite dish. I'm not a big TV watcher.

I'll be retiring in 16 months, 27 days. My son just moved to Phoenix from Lacey, WA, and I really liked it in WA. I'm sure my travels will take me back up there. We'll have to get together and compare babies.

Oh, okay, I am just sick with envy! You guys are so lucky to have ordered NEW LD's...but really, thanks for sharing your wonderful news with us. I just walked by my old LD and thought to myself, I am so fortunate to have that baby sitting in front of my house...(in my driveway) and any time I want to go, I can just go! And one of these days, I will do just that..head west and never look back! Mari Susan

You can call Lazy Daze and add to your order. They will add to the cost when you pick up the unit.

Betty, you and Kent switched from the 30' to 26.5 RK after visiting the factory.  What changed your mind after you got there?

In talking with Ed Newton of Lazy Daze, he caused us to consider things that we had not thought of before. We are new to the RV thing and Lazy Daze motorhomes. First of all the 30IB is a wonderful rig and one that we could still be very happy with; but the bedroom containing the island bed really could only be used for sleeping; whereas the selection of the 26.5 RK really did away with the bedroom concept and gave all of the space in the motorhome much more utility for us. Each part of the rig has more than one use; economy of space so to speak. The increased payload we gained with the shorter rig was important since we will not ever bump our heads on the top end of payload now. We also had some concern about our handling the longer rig since we are newbees to RVing. We can always go to a longer one someday when we are more experienced. Cost differences were not a factor at all in our decision. With us being so new to this experience, there is always a chance we have made a mistake in our choice.
That is why we deferred to Ed Newton whose opinions we valued a whole lot during the decision making process.

Mari Susan, I know how you feel! If I get any greener I'll start saying "ribbit". It is fun to hear about the choices and options selected and I'm learning a lot about our '89. I wonder what the mix is between "new" and "used" members. I can't wait to attend a rally and see them all together. karen

Hi, Betty. Don't feel bad about only getting 1 solar panel. It may well be enough -- depending on how you use your power, how long you boondock, and whether you can find a sunny place to park. As you note, you could always supplement with a portable panel. I just insisted on 2 roof-mounted panels because I am a geek and will have computer and communication equipment to keep running. Congratulations on the soon retirement! Best regards, --Valerie

Hi: Just a note to letyou know that at the Lazy Daze Caravasn Club you will not see any 2nd time owners. You have to be an orginal owner of a LD to become a member. By buying a new Lazy Daze you have become eligible to become a member.
There are other Lazy Daze people that have started small caravan groups through out the country, in their areas and I don't think you have to be an orginal ownerto join those. There is one up in orgon that is just getting started, eand There is another on in Texas, also one up North in Cal.

Now any of you new owners of a new LD. are invited come out to a caravan at lest once and see what it is all about. I gaurantee you will be pleasently supprised when you come out. You will see very old to the very new rigs, and a whole lot of very happy campers.
Be looking for you Kahuna

Ed Newton played a big part in changing my mind.
He pointed out that the 30' has about 8' devoted to the bedroom which of course takes that much off the other areas. He asked if it would be worth it to me to devote a full room to sleeping for 8 hrs. when I could use a sleeping bag with sheets and sleep on the couch. He assured me it was faster to roll up a sleeping bag than to make a bed. I believe it was the rear bath that actually had the most living area. Also I liked the maneuverability of the 26'. I would like to be able to get into some of the Nat'l Parks and Forest areas easier. Ed was trying so hard to discourage me from the 30' that I was wondering if there is a larger markup on the 26'.

When you look at the price list and what comes standard with the 30' (remember, they also have to send it out to get the frame streched, and that's not cheap) you wonder how they make any money on the 30' over the 26.5'.

But when I asked Ed about the different models, he only said buy what suits your living style. In my case my wife likes to retire early to bed with a good book and the dog next to her, while I sometimes stay up later either working (yes, I can do my job on the road and get even more use out of my LD), reading or just watching TV. For us the separate bedroom works out well. When you spend all day together sometimes it's nice to have your own space to retire too.

And for those very reasons is why we ordered the 30' IB - I can walk to the bed, lie down and hubby can sit in the "living room" readin, doing the computer or glued to the TV/VCR all without disturbing each other.

Our previous LD, 26.5 MB RL was perfect for this also except I couldn't get in and out of the overhead bunk (bad back!).

Thanks for the comments on the 30'. It's great there are so many different floor plans to choose from.
After looking at all of them at the factory, I think the 30' will be our choice for the simple reason we want a comfortable fixed bed which we will fit with a Select Comfort mattress because that is what we enjoy at home. We also felt, as with the MBath, you have 2 defined living/sleeping areas. And more important, it's the model my wife likes!
