We were all set to order a 23 1/2 ft. FL, but are having 2nd thoughts about going with the 23 twin/king instead. Our concerns with the twin/king are the bathroom and closed off feeling right behind the driver's seat, and the inability to adjust the driver's seat much, although we're both relatively short. A friend warned about bathroom odors from the holding tank, especially in warm weather (she doesn't have a LD). Has this been an issue for anyone? For those who have these 23 1/2 ft. models, I'd appreciate some input on what you like, don't like, etc.

Of course, we love the rear couches and view in the twin/king and the versatility of sleeping, but like the more open feeling of the living area in the FL. In the FL is the flip up table enough of a dinette table?

There are only two of us (retired) and our dog and cat, so sleeping other people is not an issue. And, of course, we plan to re-visit the factory for another look.

Thanks for any and all input.

Sandy

We have had 3 LD's with the rear view, which is spectacular. We just ordered a 26 1/2 rear kitchen. We will have a view in the back when eating and a view forward when in the front. We also are getting the entertainment center[optional]. We figured that the extra cost opver the 23 1/2 is well worth it.
We live 30 miles from LD, so we are quite familiar with the owners.
This motor home is the best on the market!

Hi rjld614:

Did you have the 23 1/2 foot model with all 3, or any? Anything you didn't like? We would probably go for the 26 1/2, but we don't have room for it--we'll be storing it in our driveway when we're not travelin' the country. Also, we're still intimidated by anything larger. So, the 23 1/2 foot it is, but which plan??? (My husband leans toward the FL, and I like the twin/king, but we're both undecided.)

We selected the 26 1/2 MB for the view, and every time we camp, we are thankful for that decision.  Even at night, it makes a great lounge.

Good luck in your decision.

We had a 1972 rear view. Paid $8750.Sold it for $9300. Bought a 1977 22' Rear Lounge for $16000. Sold it for $19000. Bought a 1986 for $31500.
All were rear lounge. This is how the value holds up. We love these rigs and I am sure you will not be disappointed.
Have many happy trips.

Ours is an '83 22'FL (same floor plan). Note that when seated in the lounge in this model, The cab is similar to a bay window, giving you a three-sided view as in the rear lounge. Since the cab windows aren't as deeply tinted, the view is brighter - but less 'private'.

The flip-up table works fine for the two chairs, and in a pinch for 3 by pulling up the couch seat (or using a stool). There is also a larger pedestal table in ours for in front of the couch, which stores in a closet. We use that when dining 4. For Thanksgiving for 4, we set up both, for the extra real-estate.

I would judge the main advantage of the rear lounge to be the separate fully-useable sleeping areas, an advantage if you bring others, and the main advantage of the front lounge to be the great bathroom and spaciousness (for its size).

After 8 years with a 83 FL, we would say perfect for couples. We almost never have sleep over guests. The big question is do you mind sleeping in the overhead bunk? Think about doing this 10 years from now. If you do not tow a dingy, then the 23 1/2' model is very usable for day tripping. You can park it in many lots without using 2 parking spots. Can't do that in a 26'.The flip up table is all we ever use except when having guests over. It has enough space and sets up quickly. The barrel chairs are very comfortable and have held up well. The view is good from the FL. You have the windshield to view out of as well as the big side windows.
Our best friends have have a 85 RL, so we have experience with both the RL and the FL. The RL is great if more than two campers are going but for a couple, the FL is perfect for us. My next LD will probably be a FL.

We've loved the front lounge since we bought the more practical, family-oriented 22' '86 multiplan (front dinette, rear fold-away bed/couch.

One thing we liked the best about the front lounge is the fact that the bathroom and shower are right at the entry door. We like to boondock and often come back to the rig muddy. We always thought that it would be nice to have the bath (with boot-storage on a wood rack in the shower). In the Multiplan, we just had a huge door mat notched to fit through the kitchen and over to the entry door (behind navigator seat).

But caution, the cab windows are much lower than the coach windows, and the bulkheads where the body flares out behind the cab block more of the front view.

We are ordering the rear bath --a super-sized version of the 23-front lounge.

We have a 23 1/2 RK so the view out the back is breathtaking some mornings at sunrise.
I'm 5' 11' and don't have a problem with the drivers seat. We were on the road Mar-Apr-May of 2000 and didn't have any bathroom odor problems.
We do use one of the chemical deopdorants. We dry camped some. Zion, Yellowstone, Quartzite and had no odor problems there either.

The bathroom and shower are right at the entry door in the twin/king model (23 ft.) as well. Many thanks to all of you who have given us lots to think about. I have always preferred the twin/king, but my husband was reluctant to have the bathroom right behind the driver's seat (and he's a short guy, too!). Because I've liked both floor plans I was willing to go along with him. It's a big decision, though, and we wanted to make sure we'd have no regrets. Now, though, he's giving the twin/king some more thought, and thinks that may be better, overall, for us--we're not sure how we'd like sleeping in the cab-over (although it may be just fine), and the twin/king definitely gives us more options, bigger bed, etc.--we have to consider our golden retriever, too, you know! And, of course, we do love that view.

This group is great for getting feedback from more experienced LD owners. Thanks again!

Forgot to mention that the coach door is well away from the cab. In the old days, that was a good thing because the doors were hard to seal, and they made wind noise.

Ed Newton assures me that the new(er) coach doors are quiet, but after years of chasing around the coach door with sponge rubber tape, we decided to ban the door to the rear.

Sandy; don't dismiss the cabover bed. It is queen sized, most comfortable, and NOTHING beats a window and a large vent just inches from your head on hot nights. That handle that only Lazy Daze provides to come down frontwards makes it so much easier than on other makes. I am 66 with arthritic knees, and still I prefer the cabover bed, but we bought the mid bath for when we can no longer get up and down the ladder. Good luck. Gus Weber
