Pet question

I have a cat. What do those of you with pets do when it's relatively hot outside and you need to leave your dog/cat in the RV for the afternoon. Would leaving the windows partially open and running the fan be enough?

Thanks,

Brian

You asked what we do for the pets when it is hot and we want to leave the coach. The answer is that it depends. If the rig is in the shade, you can use windows and the fan, but if it is in the sun, and the temperature is above about 85 degrees, despite the great insulation, the coach will become too hot. Again depending on the temperature, we either run the swamp cooler or if above about 90 degrees (or if in humid climes where the swamp cooler is not efficient), we run the generator and the roof air conditioner. We leave one window open and the fantastic fan on (with the thermostat set for a maximum comfortable temperature for the pets).
So far, we have not had trouble in the Lazy Daze, but many years ago we had an air conditioner failure in Yuma, AZ in August and had we not returned in time, we could have lost them. Also, we use the awning to keep the sun off the coach when we can. Good luck and see you on the road.

I have travelled with cats in my 86 Toyota-based micro mh and in my '00 Lazy Daze. My experience is that with windows open, an rv interior does not heat up very much--the inside temperature is about the same as in the shade outside, especially if there is any breeze. With the fantastic fan on the LD, breeze is not an issue. If security is an issue, I open only roof vents, set the thermostat on the fantastic fan, make sure they have food and water, and go about my business. That's worked up to the mid 90s. If it's hotter than that, I'm pulling up stakes and going somewhere else anyway--that's why I've got an rv!
