Magnetek and Batteries

I have a Magnetek 6300 Q and dual 6V Trojan batteries ('99 26.5 RB) and have a couple of questions:

What's the best way to keep these batteries healthy? (no solar, yet) Change chargers?

Why does this converter/charger always hum or buz?

I've heard/read that these Magneteks are not the best converter/chargers and will actually ruin batteries if left plugged in - no antisulfation cycle, etc....

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Yes, this can be a problem. If you plan to use hookups much, or use the converter as your main way to keep the batteries charged up between trips, I would invest in the Magnetek upgrade - I think it is the 7345 and replaces just the bottom module.

We have solar panels on the roof and rarely plug in except to pre-cool the fridge. Therefore I have found no good reason to do the upgrade.
