We all know that the 30'LD has a somewhat limited load capacity, but without passengers it would appear to be quite adequate for a couple. What I'm curious about is the available reserve, individually, for the front and rear axles? In other words, how concerned do you have to be about distributing weight? With the driver and passenger seats occupied, a full refrigerator, and a reasonable amount of gear in the cabinets either side of the overhead TV, but with no additional passengers, does the front axle still have reserve capacity? If so, the way the storage is arranged in the rear, distributing remaining weight equally across the rear axle would appear to be fairly easy. Lastly, if another couple was on board, their weight would probably be split between the front and rear axles. In this latter scenario, do we still have reserve capacity on the front axle? We're debating between the 26.5' MB and the 30'IB. Our present MH (older 22' Cl A Winny) is almost maxed out when the driver and passenger seats are occupied - and definitely goes over the limit with additional passengers.

The 30' is probably the most evenly balanced of all the floor plans.

The added weight carrying capacity of the E450 chassis is all on the rear wheels with no change on the front axle from the E350.

The added length (& weight) of the 30' is mostly on the rear wheels (this off-loads the front axle). With the 26' models you have to load it to the rear.

With my 30' my wife and I have been unable to overload it. If you were to carry 2 additional passengers then just make sure that most of the heavy luggage is to the rear.

LD has taken great pains in designing their MH.
Distribution of weight and the carrying capacity are well thought out.
On the 26 1/2 & the 30, the front axel weight rating is 4600#, the rear is 9450#. Max.gross weight rating is 20000# on the 26 1/2 & 30.
In other words, it is difficult to overload it under ordinary conditions.
I hope this puts your mind at ease.
NOTE: We have owned 3 LDs and just ordered A 26 1/2 Rear Kitchen.

I

fear someone who is a novice may read this statement and misinterpret that you can load the motorhome up to a maximum of 20,000 lbs. Just to clarify, this means that the COMBINED weight of the LD AND a trailer or dinghy, can be 20,000 lbs. I believe that the allowable maximum weight of just the E-450 chassis (used on the 26.5 and 30' models) is 14,050, which means that whatever you are towing can weigh up to 5,950 lbs. In other words, it is NOT difficult to overload this, or any other motorhome, if you are not cautious about what you are doing.

The Lazy Daze website shows that a 30" LD has a extra cargo capacity of 774lb. This "extra" capacity is for food, kitchen gear, clothes, bedding, books, tools and all the other stuff you need.
It is very easy to load up more than this especially in the 30' model. It has a fair amount of storage. All 26 1/2' models have over twice as much extra capacity. If I were to travel extensivly, I would like the ability to carry more weight.

Keep in mind that the 30' cargo capacity listed (774 lb) is with water tank full and 5 passengers.

With water weighing around 8 lbs. per gallon I don't think that I would be traveling with a 60 gallon tank full (carry 20 gallons and have over 300 lbs. carrying capacity extra).

If you don't travel with 5 people (actually, the 30' is best suited for 2) then you and easily pick up an extra 300 lbs. here (2 people at 150 each, my dog and my extra weight makes the 3rd person for us).

So in my case I have almost 1,400 lbs. of carrying capacity when the gas tank is full (and it doesn't stay that way long). If I take more than 1,400 lbs. of stuff then I should be staying home.
