LD Steering

Just recently became a new RVer with our purchase of a 2002 23.5'LD.
On our way back from picking the LD up it seemed to steer much better than I expected. Found out real soon the push to the right you get from 18 wheelers passing you on the left  Today I picked the unit up from a local RV service center and found the steering to some extent swaying back and forth.  There was very little if any wind.  BTW the RV Center didn't do anything to the steering, tires, etc;.  When on a good hwy I had to grip the steering wheel fairly firmly to remain in control and on a less than good hwy I had to strongly hold on for control purposes.  Just the short distance(40) miles I traveled I had a tightness in my shoulder and around my collar bone. I could see that I easily could be completely worn out by the end of a day of driving in these conditions.  I read somewhere about bump steering-- not sure what this means but possibly someone in this group can explain.

I'm not sure if this type steering I experienced is normal for RVs but I want our experiences to be safe and not to be beaten up at the end of the day and what I experienced today was neither.  Would appreciate any comments the group has on my perceived steering problems.

Have you checked tire pressure on all 6 tires?  If so and set right, a immediate alignment with the same load you expect to run may be

I'm pretty tall (6'0") and usually drive with my seat pretty far back.  When I first drove my LD I found I was getting a lot of fatigue in my traps (trapezoid muscles) and shoulders, along with forearms and wrists.  I found pulling the seat much more forward (compared to my car seats) totally alleviated that fatigue.  Just another thought for you...

Thanks Joan for the correction....it's Trapezius muscles!  Yikes! Nothing like getting anatomy and geometry mixed up!

Not such a big mixup after all, regarding trapezius muscle and geometry.
"Trapezius actually has three separate sections (upper middle lower!!).  (Not to belabor this, but some anatomists say "four sections).  When you see the whole muscle (not just the upper part--the part you are feeling when the driving position is awkward for you) it has a trapezoid shape.  So...that's how it gets its name.
Gosh this sounds pedantic.  Sorry.  But thought you might be interested.
