Thanks Joe It's been so long since we had the bias-plys on our '83 that all I remember about their ride and handling is the wheel tramp when cold. Most of the radials we have used have had good ride and handling, and the current ones are Kumho tires in 8.75R16.5 size. They seem to ride and handle fine, with not too much road noise.Steve

They seem to ride and handle fine, with not too much road noise.Steve My 85 still had its origional 8.00 x 16.5 bias plys on when I bought it in 92, first long trip a rear tread came off, got Bilsteins & Michelin XPS 8.75 x 16.5, great tires except fair in snow or mud, eventually dry rotted, replaced a few years ago with Kuhmo 9.50 x 16.5, they also perform fine for me, perhaps a very small bit less self centering, they are as quiet as the Michelins, the speedo reads a bit low, but the GPS is there on the dash with the correct reading. Both ride better than the origionals, and steer & track very much better. There is still space between the rear tires, the sidewalls show no signs of contact. I carry a motorcycle on back and/or tow a light trailer at 65 mph for 12+ hours days at times, they run cool. Tire Rack has some tables showing a variety of tire dimensions and specifications that helped me choose the 9.50 size in the Kuhmo. Others will use different criteria in choosing their tires, but these tires work well for me.Ed

(We started out for NH, and had a tire start flapping the cord although it did not blow out. Apparently the tire did not stand summer storage well. We were glad to get new tires of any brand.) I have had the impression that the Goodrich tires are not as stiff as the original Firestones, and there is more rocking of the LD when trucks pass or roads are rough. I drove it about 1,500 miles on the original tires prior to installing the new ones. Had two blow-outs in the past six months on the seven year old Firestones. Both blow-outs were on the inside rear tires. I was lucky, no damage to my RV.Allen
