Hi to all, Just joined this group.  As you can see from my name, I am a past Airstream owner.  Owned and old 1960 Airstream in the 70's and towed it everywhere; it was great.  Naturally when retirement came we bought a new one.  What a disapointment.  Everything went wrong.
Sold it after three years and are now on the quest for quality.
Quality issues forced me to sell and go on the search for the best RV made.  After three years of looking and trying and reading we made the decision to order a new LD.  26.5 mid bath #8005 was ordered on May 6, 2003.  We live in Minnesota and have been camping for years. I was an engineer in a former life and can weigh in on may of the issues in this group.  You got a question?  I can probably give you a logical answer.  One small problem . . I don't spend hours a day at the computer.  Too much like my old job.  From you I expect to learn all the ins and outs of the LD lifestyle.  Just reading the Chat info we have learned a lot.  Keep it coming.  By the way, delivery of #8005 is scheduled for Dec./Jan.  Poor me!

Hey fellow Minnesotans, welcome! (Well, I'm a former Minnesotan - live in So. Cal. now.) Boy, I feel sorry for your delivery date. Are you driving it back to the great frozen North, or staying south until the near perma-frost is gone? Keep us posted!

At one time Airstream was the epitome of high quality in travel trailers. Unfortunately Airstream quality has gone down considerably since they were bought by Thor. There are actually a few Class Action Suits filed now against them due to poor quality. I had an old Airstream before I met my wife and it was a great trailer! We even looked at them and were seriously considering getting one before deciding on getting a Class C motorhome. I've heard several horror stories about the newer ones and would not consider getting one today. I even have a business partner who just told me he and his wife were seriously considering getting one and I told him to look for an older one if he did get one because they have really gone down in quality over the years. I certainly wouldn't buy a new one!

I'm sure this will be a decision you won't be sorry you made! The wait is long but I can tell you from experience it is well worth it!

Good luck with it!

We will be staying out that way until April 1.  Taxes you know!  Or we may file an extension and stay longer.  If we pay for our LD ahead of time I can get my Minn. plates and be on my way with no worry about a temporary registration from CA raising trooper eyebrows 3-4 months down the road.
