Loose tire skirts
Yahoo Message Number: 24173
Yes, I've had one half come loose on the passenger side. I probably didn't tighten it enough. I was unhappy with the design, others must have been also.
Since then LD changed the wing nut from below to a painted knob from the side about 2000. When tightening mine, there was no definite stop, and the cover would bow out from the side of the motorhome, catching air and looking bad. I replaced the bolts with longer 1/4x20, 2 1/2 inch stainless bolts. I put a nut to hold it to the body. Another nut and washer just above where the slot on the skirt wanted to hang naturally. These were glued in place with JB Weld epoxy.
Another washer and wing nut, with a locktited acorn nut on the screw end to avoid losing the wing nut if it did come loose. I had to pry out some latex caulk to replace the screw. I did recaulk it, and painted it flat black. (otherwise it tends to collect dirt). With a more positive stop between two nuts, it is easier to tighten, not as much travel on the screw is required, so it is also faster.
I did the same thing to the spare tire cover, so the edge of the tire cover doesn't contact the motorhome. About an 1/8" gap, and tight is tight. I couldn't put in a longer screw there, and I had to make sure that enough threads were engaged by the acorn nut.                                    Ron, and 'Bluebelle', a  23.5 (E350) TKB (Yes I made up that word; Locktite is a trade name for thread locking glue.)
