Harbor Freight tire step
Yahoo Message Number: 24026
Sorry for entering the discussion so late on an item I started.  We took the LD down to Ohio for a few days for a wedding.

Sarah, The tire step is very heavy duty and its weight is about 14 lbs (according to my bathroom scale).  At 6' 3" I couldn't reach the underhang with a ladder but with the step on it's higheat setting it's no problem.  I ordered item no. 32044.  it was the only one advertised in the catalog I had on hand.  It doesn't fold but comes apart rather easily (pins with clips) into three pieces.  Hanging it on the tire is VERY safe and secure and I only use the second smallest tire adjustment and it's a good snug fit.  The best part, as opposed to a ladder, is that you can lean way in and put all your sideways weight on it with out worring about it scooting out like a ladder does.  Our LD is new so its on the E450 chassis with 225/75 R 16 tires.  It would be nicer if it folded but I think you'd have to give up the ability to fit different tire sizes.
Well tomorrow morning we head for Halafax and the Military Tatoo and then on to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.  Its amazing how fast the LD converts from wedding clothes to hiking clothes.  Didn't even have to unpack the fridge.  Hopefully some of the campgrounds in Canada will have modem hookups or else we'll have to wait for weekends when we can use the computer/cell phone hookup and our 3000 weekend minutes.
Our Jeep Liberty tow vehicle looks like it's going on safari with the entire back seat full of inflatable kayak and gear and the rear cargo area full of camping gear(tents, sleeping bags etc.).  We will be leaving the LD in temp storage and taking the jeep on the 14 hour ferry to Newfoundland and camping while on the Island for a week.

Hopefully we'll be able to keep monitoring this wonderful and informative group.
