Does Lazy Daze dicker on price or is the cost non-negotiable?  Will they throw in items like covers or do-dads from their parts department to close a sale?

David and Laurie,

LD has a backlog of 7-9 months depending on the season and the availability of chasis.   They can't make any more than they produce today because they are restricted by their grandfathered paint booth....a new paintbooth to meet California's new environmental and employee health laws would be prohibitive.

The short answer is NO!

They do already give you far more than any other brand as standard equipment and the best construction quality. Beside things easily noticed and seen there are so many hidden things that people buying other brands end up adding IF they can and many they simply can't.
Nobody pays more attention to detail and even the RV repair center I use to do my annual maintenance tells me that every time they see mine. They can't believe they cost so little! You certainly get your monies worth! Most RVs in their class cost at least $15k more and up.
With he lead time they have you either "take it or leave it" because they sell all they can make well before they're made.

No. Unlike most other manufacturers and all dealers, LD maintains NO inventory. If you want to dicker, you will have to have a unit to dicker about - i.e. you'll have to find a used one.

I just have to make one comment about the "low" price of a Lazy Daze.  Being an owner, I will agree with everyone here the quality is first rate.  However, the price increases over the past couple of years have been significant, and I would be hard pressed to call the price "low".  We thought we would own a used one for a few years, and save up to purchase new, but I think the price increases are going to put that out of reach.

Just my two cents, Laurie

Laurie,

Have you looked at the price increases from their competitors? They have all jumped in recent years significantly and many haven't really added much worth the price increase. Lazy Daze has added items every year to their units. Although they look basically the same except for the interior color change of 2002 they have added many things to the basic unit. The new true thermo-pane windows in themselves add a lot to the cost. For the 2004 models the price increase includes the new Shurflo Smart Sensor water pump and a Sharp Aquos LCD TV, size dependent on model. Most models will get a 15" Aquos Those TVs aren't cheap! They certainly cost much more than the 13" TV/VCR in earlier models. Every year they add something that increases the cost and value. I don't know what the current RVCG rating book has to say but they have always had the best value ratings of all motorhomes. That means you get the most for your money! Every year Ford also increases the cost of the chassis as well.

Take a look at the price of a Born Free, Chinook, Coach House Platinum, or other high quality motorhomes and then compare it to Lazy Daze. You will indeed find their price "low" by comparison and you get so much more!

"We thought we would own a used one for a few years, and save up to purchase new, but I think the price increases are going to put that out of reach."

If RV sales continue to be brisk as they have since 9/11 that could be true for many of the much lesser quality brands that don't give you nearly as much for your money as well! I wasn't saying the price is low, just that in comparison to the other high quality motorhomes it is thousands less even though they don't "dicker" on the price.
People who know the RV market and RV quality often can't believe they cost so little knowing what other higher quality brands cost that aren't even as nice. I'm sorry if that means a new LD won't be in your future budget based on your current projections.

Nope.
However, they will give you a travel discount if you buy from out of state.
I think that they pride themselves on charging everyone who buys the same product with same options, the same price.

My feeling is this policy makes the buying decision earier, not having to fight to avoid being overcharged.
I have to admit when I read the question: "Do they dicker?", I had to chuckle knowing the LD show room from factory visits and their policy from this website.

Heck, it's hard to even dicker on used ones!  My friend, Bob (Hi Bob!) just recently visited the mother ship...he told me something interesting he learned there....
