Hi to all Got back from a week in the N.C. mountains. Anyone needing info on the Franklin area let me know. Gem stone mines, whitewater rafting and lots of beautiful trails. I am now restocking and doing maintenance on the L.D. All those reports from you Northwest folks have aroused my sense of adventure. I plan to leave here on Thursday
7-3 and head out to the Seattle area. Hope to be there by the 13th to
pick up  Beautiful Jewel at the airport. Then we will have ten days to explore together. From what I can tell, the Olympic Peninsula has a lot to offer and might be a good place to start. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Roy, sorry I'll miss meeting you -- leaving here for Idaho about the same time you're leaving Miami.  I'll sure miss picking your brain about the gem stone mines you visited.
There are still lotsa LD folks around the area to hitch up with when you arrive.  As to sights to see in the area, may I suggest this:  lay a Washington map out on the table, close your eyes, let your forefinger circle here and there and everywhere around the map; and when the finger alights, open your eyes...*that's* the area you should visit.  I guarantee wher*ever* your finger stops will be some place awesome to explore!!  Or, you could just decide what kind of water you like and go there -- choices are ocean, lake, river, stream, solid (glaciers).  Have a great time.

Hi Roy! Check out the database for Parks, Roads, Bridges, Sites on the Yahoo website and look under WA and you'll see some great recommendations for Olympic Peninsula campgrounds. There's lots to see and do and you'll be coming out here at a beautiful time usually weatherwise. Have a safe trip and feel free to contact me if needed at    rver at attbi dot com

Roy, if you are going to be on the Olympic Peninsula, check out Realto Beach near LaPush.  It is a beautiful place!  There is also a great National Forrest campground about two miles from the beach.

Ramblin Roy, please keep folks posted about your arrival in the Pacific Northwest. I don't know that I'll still be here then, but as you can tell, this is a friendly group of people and they'll welcome you. Now of course, we need to know who "Beautiful Jewel" is.

For some general info, how to get to the Olympic Penninsula, and helpful links to the ferry system, etc: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/ article.cfm?destid=2799&articleid=174

The Olympic Penninsula is beautiful - http://www.olympicpeninsula.org/index.html?source=northolympic.com

If you're not a boondocker, here's a link for parks over there: http://www.northolympic.com/rvpacc/

If you love classical music: http://www.olympicmusicfestival.org/about/history.html This was a summer home for the Philadelphia String Quartete back in the '60's. Beautiful music in a barn, over 100 years old.
Near the Olympic Music festival location is the town of Sequim. There's a wonderful annual summer festival there: http://www.lavenderfestival.com/sequim.html

The Olympic Penninsula is certainly not the only wonderful place to see in Washington, but the beautiful places are way too numerous to mention.

Have a great and happy trip,

Sarah in Seattle

Sarah, Allen, Marti and all thanks for the links and suggestions I will put it to good use. For our first visit to Washington State we have more choices than we will be able to select for activities.
Sarah, the music will be on the agenda as well as Rialto Beach as Allen suggested. Though I will not likely have my computer along, I'll try and get a post or two in via a library or a kinko's. It will be a long journey and I expect to be on the road for 5-6 weeks. I am sure I will have something of interest to pass along at some point.
Sarah if you are gone to Idaho, I'll look forward to seeing you down the road. Beautiful Jewel is  my wife, who unlike me, is employed and will only be with me in Washington. Also flying in with my wife & joining us to test the concept of togetherness in a 22 FL will be my two lovely lady cousins. I am bringing a tent in case I need to retreat to a cave (male thing). Soon to depart this tropical paradise.
