Question for those traveling with a feline and /or bird

For any of you out there who travel with your feline friend(s)am trying to determine where one might place a "potty box" ? We have a 30 IB so I'm sure the location may differ depending on size and plan.
I have considered trying to teach the cat how to use the head in the LD but she has a problem depressing the water petal

Also anyone travel with a bird? If so what do you do for a cage location?

Hi Sylvia, we asked ourselves the same thing when we started traveling last year. We can't help you with your bird question, but we do travel with our 3 fuzzball cats if we are going to be away for more than a couple days.
We have found that using a covered litterbox works well. We extend the table so we can put the litterbox under it, then reset the table back to it's original/smaller size. We also place a frizzy-type door mat in front of the litter box so that any "litter" on their paws is caught by the mat and doesn't go into the carpet.
When not traveling, we put it up front between the driver and passenger seats.
While not exactly perfect, it's about the best arrangement we have come up with so far. We had tried putting the box back by the bed on one side, but we didn't really care for that setup. However, if you have guests over then it might be best in the event the box is used during the visit, and you wanted to isolate the area by opening the shower door and "walling off" the bedroom.
Our cats are pretty big and any trip to the litter box is a major event. We have good air flow, but the first couple minutes after any "event" tends to make us want to run screaming for the woods. I went ahead and posted a picture to www.yuliya.net/furball/furball.html

I have been reading older messages, and I recall seeing some really great ones about Kitty Litter boxes. One sugestion was to use an outside compartment, then make a little door to the inside that the cat can walk through. That way the litter smell goes outside. One ingenious fellow even hooked upa little fan! I'm sorry I don't remember the date or number of those messages, but perhaps the people who posted that info originally will respond to you. Good luck! (Did you search the archives for Kitty Littter?)

A couple of years ago someone asked the same question and I responded with the suggestion to place the box in an exterior storage compartment with an interior entrance.
I built a cat box for our home that was covered. In it, I installed a fan that was connected to a motion detector that turned the fan on for ten minutes every time the box was 'visited'. The fan was vented through a length of dryer hose that went to a nearby window. It sure helped keep our home odor free. There is no reason why something like this could be used in your LD.
12-volt motion detectors are now available. Just disconnect the light and replace it with a computer fan, vented outside. If the box is kept in an exterior storage compartment, you could drill a large hole in the exterior door and cover it with a metal vent. The fan could be attached to the inside of the door, behind the vent cover.
Keep us posted, my wife is trying to talk me into a 'traveling' cat.

We have a cocktail that we travel with in a 26RB and we put the cage in the kitchen area on the floor in the corner by the sink. I put two hooks on the cabinets and use a bungie cord to "strap him in". That has worked out for us for years. Doug
