Would appreciate some information and confirmation of some logistical matters in purchasing a new LD.
1) Is California sales tax 8.25%?
2) Distance &  time from LD factory to drop-off at Az or Nv?
3)  What is cost of ICC driver?
4) Any other charges
incurred by taking possession in Az or Nv? Thanks, folks.

We are going to the LD factory next Wednesday and have done a considerable amount of research on the tax thing. The California tax is now 7.5% since it was reduced .25% in the very recent past. The best thing to do is call the LD office at 800-578-1103 and they will answer any question that you might have. I have been on the phone with them today regarding the tax issues. Just call them and ask them all of your questions; I did. Don't forget to consider joining the Rv Consumer Group too because if I hadn't done that I would never have even heard of Lazy Daze who make what seems to be the best and safest Class C motorhome on the road.

"3) What is cost of ICC driver?"

At the moment, it is $285 if you let the driver tow. The cost is $335 if you don't let the driver tow.

My biggest hang up with letting an ICC driver tow is that I don't know what type of vehicle the person will show up with. In the cool weather of February, a small car might be OK, but I would be uncomfortable with a full-sized pick-up or Surburban type vehicle.

Being from Texas, we would like to take Texas tags with us, but we keep getting the same answer from the tax assessor office, you need a Texas inspection. Are you sure that you are making it clear that you aren't buying your Lazy Daze from a dealer? We have called the Texas office twice and received the same answer and will call one more time to make sure. If you go to the Texas Motor Vehicle website, you get the same answer. Going to the Michigan site, you find that they don't require an inspection.

"2) Distance & time from LD factory to drop-off at Az or Nv?"

From the Lazy Daze "ICC INFORMATION" sheet:

DISTANCE TO LAS VEGAS, NV 260 MILES $285.00 TOW $335.00 NO TOW

DISTANCE TO EHRENBERG, AZ 195 MILES $285 TOW $335.00 NO TOW

I know you can get the above information by calling Lazy Daze, but there might be lurkers interested that don't find it important enough to call.

guglielmo2k- Thanks very much for the reply.
Re Texas inspection, the tax office rep did not mention this as a requirement. I was quite specific and candid to know exactly what they needed to register the vehicle. I have heard from my Houston LD friends, their tax office required a picture of the rig. When I asked the Beaumont rep, she said they did not need this.
One more question, does LD include the weight on the MCO? Hope this helps.

All your questions can be correctly and simply answered by a call to Steve, Ed or Paul Newton at Lazy Daze.

Believe me, that is the best way to get the California end of your questions answered.

We recently took delivery of our Lazy Daze, prepaid the purchase price and CA sales tax, received the resulting paperwork delivered to us by next day UPS, took that to our local DOT licensing agent, paid the delta between CA and our state's sales/use tax and bought our license plates which we took with us when we took delivery. Lazy Daze installed our plates as part of their delivery process.

We had researched our state's department of vehicle licensing ahead of time and found our state does have a reciprocal sales / use tax agreement with California. You will need to find out explicitly what your state's law says and the process your state uses for your purchase of a vehicle in California.

Only after you have an official and correct description of both CA and your state's procedure, will you have reliable data on which to base a decision on using an ICC driver or prepaying Lazy Daze the purchase price with the local Montclair area CA sales tax.

Good Luck Don

We live in Oregon (no sales tax). Am I correct in understanding that if we pay for our LD in advance and the licensing/registration, that we can drive our LD "away" and not have to use an ICC?

Tell me it's true??!?!

Thanks!

Hello Fellow Oregonian!

It's true! (If you are willing to pay the California tax.)

If you're not willing to pay that tax (I'm not)then your only option is to take delivery out of the state of California (i.e. Las Vegas or Arizona.)

But that's OK, it gives us an excuse to take the long, scenic way around California to get back to Oregon. And what better way than in an LD?

Love your name - how appropriate for our country eh?

Yes, you reaffirmed what I've been learning but I keep hoping. Not to say it isn't worth it as $300+ is a far cry from TAXES! we'll handle it!!!

On another note, what does one need to do the reverse, sell in OR and register in CA? Anyone know or aware of a website?

Thanks!
