Don't get smogged in the rain ;^) January 31, 2001, 09:57:04 am Yahoo Message Number: 1808I feel stupid about this, but in case others suffer the same occasional problem of mental lapses, I thought I would pass this on.I spent a good deal of time and energy trying to erradicate a supposed water leak shortly back. Somehow the water had soaked the floor of the cab on the passenger's side, and I could not localize its source. No signs of leakage in the cabover, but I did some resealing of seams up there just in case.I discovered the wet floor while replacing the 'doghouse' following a recent smog test. The day before we had heavy rains, which continued a bit less intensely on this day. For several days of removing items to loosen and dry the carpet, running heaters and fans, resealing, I STILL had no indication where the leak was coming from.It finally occured to me that when removing the doghouse at the smog test, I had my hands all over the same carpet area, and had noted no wetness at all. The key is, of course, that the m'home had been sitting out in a fairly heavy rain, with the hood up, and the doghouse off, the engine runnig and warmed up, and the highly effective engine fan had propelled all that rain inside onto the carpet. This had not occured to me because the engine was OFF and the hood DOWN when I removed and later replaced the cover. Being an older m'home, a leak was simply my first thought and my mind would not go beyond that. The moral is the subject line.Steve
