Any LD amateur astronomy buffs out there?

If so... I've got a few questions about making LD interior lights "night vision" compatible when necessary.

Wouldn't call us 'buffs', but we often cart along my wife's Astroscan 2000. Not sure what you mean about the interior lights, though - all our gazing is done outdoors, where an interior light is not an issue.
If you are in close quarters at a meet, you might try using flashlights inside with red LED's. For serious conversions, there are red LED 12V bulb replacements that should fit some fixtures.

"Do you know a source for those 12V red LED bulbs? I've looked around, but so far no luck."

David
I saw a side clearance light at West Marine that may be just what you want.

Check the below site. I have listed several parts numbers that you should look at.  Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, Larry, but I checked out the site and those numbers, and they are not what is needed.
However... I just got a Crutchfield catalog and saw what I THINK might be the answer. They have Red 12V bulbs

"I just got a Crutchfield catalog and saw what I THINK might be the answer. They have Red 12V bulbs in these formats: 1156 and 1157. Are either of these the type of incandescent bulb that LD uses?"

David

LD uses an 1141 bulb in the interior fixtures. They use a clearance light, like the one I pointed out, in the cab, one on each side.
If you do a Google search for LED bulbs you will find many suppliers of LED automotive bulbs.

My brother and I spent many nights at Mt. Pinos star gazing and taking time lapse photos through a home made 6" reflector and later a Celestron.
Marriage kind of got in the way. I still miss the good times.

Be patient, November will eventually come and your new LD will show up.

Thanks, Larry. I will follow through on this. Obviously, I have plenty of time.
