We have ordered our 2003 26.5RB with the manual search, digital satellite antenna. We ordered the dish so that we will be able to follow the Seattle Mariners Baseball Team wherever we go.  Nearly all of their games are carried on Fox Sprorts Net(FSN)Northwest. We have no particular interest in other teams or other sports.

This will be our first experience with satellite transmitted television.  At first glance it appears that both DirectTV and EchoStar (DishTV) will provide FSN. My initial visit to the local BestBuy Discount Store leads me to believe that the Direct TV equipment (box, fixed dish, installation, etc.) would be provided at no charge when I sign up and pay for a year of service in advance.
DishTV may make the same offer through a different dealer. The smart move (apparently) is to cancel my present cable service, put the free, fixed dish on my house, enjoy the service while we are home and then carry the box in the LD whenever we travel so that it works with the digital satellite antenna mounted on the LD.

I would appreciate advice confirming or correcting my rudimentary understanding of satellite television and comments pertaining to the reception of FSN on both services as well as the relative merits of DirectTV and DishTV.

My email address is nlwalker at sysmatrix dot net.

Hi Nate, you're plans mostly mirror what I did.  I canceled cable, and got Dish TV.  My choice was dictated by the offers available to me at the time I wanted to change.  Dish TV offered 4 boxes installed free with the dish.  I preferred the Direct offerings, but they wouldn't match and go above two boxes.
I had the installers put one in the main family room and one in each bedroom.  We now have a daughter at college, and just moved this unused box into the Lazy Daze.
I've read somewhere that said we are supposed to sign a paper of some sort to make this move legal, but I haven't done this.

Sorry, can't comment on Fox sports channel, but I think that Direct is supposed to be better for sports.  We do get excellent reception.
We are don't follow sports, more of a movie for bed and local news to see what is happening back home people.

Gary,

I, too, just signed up with Dish network and ditched our cable at home.  The paper you are referring to is necessary only if you want to sign up for a network package for when you're not at home.  They offer the major networks from just a few locations, such as New York, Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, and Los Angeles.  They call this the Distant Networks Package.  To get that, you have to provide a signed statement that it is for use
