Just a note to let everyone know how much we appreciate the tremendous amount of information/advice we received since last October. At that time we were looking for a used LD mid 90's. Through this group we found and adopted a VERY CLEAN Brown/Tan 96', 26.5, MB, LD in Santa Monica with 25000 miles.  (no name yet). First thing we did was buy all new tires, had a mechanic change all hoses, belts and change all fluids. The batteries are only a couple years old and there are two solar panels. We sold a 85' Class A Pace Arrow 34' and the shock of downsizing really forced us to make hard decisions about what we did or did not need.  We now look forward to participating more to the group. Again Thanks.

Joe & Kay,

Congratulations on your new LD adoption.

You gave me a start with your statement about downsizing.  I had to read it twice to convince myself that you had not downsized from an 85' Class A (see below ).  Now THAT would be downsizing.

Congrats!  My wife and I just started educating ourselves about RV's.  We are serious considering purchasing an used LD.  We are planning to take a year off from work and travel about and try to discover what it is that we want to do with our lives.  I am 36 and my wife is 33 years old.  We plan to leave for our trip in June 2004.  That would give us plenty of time to research our options and plan our trip.  We want to be mobile, that is why the 26' or 23' makes sense to us.
What were the reasons behind your purchase?  Was it difficult to find a used unit that met all your needs?  How long did the process take to find your LD?  Any other considerations would be very help and appreciated.

Chuck,  thanks.  I am going to wait until about this time next year before we buy.  In the interim, we are trying to educate ourselves and save some money.  We are attending our first RV show this weekend in Denver.  We are really looking forward to it.  My wife has never been in a RV, she is really excited.  I am not sure with LD will be represented, but we can get a feel for a class C.  From what we have read on the internet and thru RV Consumers Guide, the class C is the rig for our lifestyle.  We plan on camping mainly is state parks and national forest campgrounds.  We want something small enough to be very mobile, but need some creature comforts at the same time.  I am looking forward to "lurking" around this group to continue to learn.

Kevin,
I take it you live in Colorado, near Denver?  I can assure you, there will be no LD's at the show, but there are a number of LD's around the Denver area that you could look at if you haven't had a chance to see one in person.  I highly recommend looking at one before you see the others, so you can see what a big difference there is.
I live in Longmont and would be happy to show you mine.

Hi Victor,
Thanks for inviting me to see your LD.  I will definitely take you up on your offer.  I am not sure if we can on this trip.  We plan to visit the show on Saturday and I have a hockey game to play on Sunday.  We will be back in your neck of the woods in May.  We are planning to float the Poudre.
My wife and I live outside of Aspen.  We live between Basalt and Carbondale.  We have been here about 9 years.  Great place to live and recreate.
Everything we had read tells us that not much will come close to the quality of a LD.  Plus, the input of this board confirms that fact.  Also, the info shared on this board is just another reason to choose LD.

Thanks again, Kevin

Kevin,
Ditto, if you want to see a '89 RB.  I live in Lakewood, CO.  We too are planning on going to the show on Saturday (I'm thinking it is more of a outdoor sports/camping show than a RV show though.  Just heard about it today so don't know for sure)  Anyway, Lakewood is kind of on your way.

Kevin, your intended RVing style is very similar to mine. Sounds to me as if you've chosen the right type of RV for your needs, and you're certainly looking at the right brand! And you have plenty of time to get up to speed, which is great. :-)
If I may offer an immodest suggestion, you might want to browse through my "Travels with Gertie" website (http://www.andybaird.com/travels/). It details my trips in a 1985 22' Lazy Daze named "Gertie" that I bought used a few years ago. The journals will give you a pretty good idea of what it's like to travel in this type of rig; they'll give you a feeling for how solid a 15-year-old Lazy Daze is; and the site's "Improving Gertie" section may give you some ideas for enhancements to make when you get your own rig.

Hi Rick,
When Kari and I first moved to Denver, we lived in Lakewood.  Then we purchased our first home nearby in Applewood.  We would like to take a look at your rig sometime.  Please let me know when would work best for you, we do not want to impose.  The RB is our front-runner at this time.  It looks very roomy.
I think that you are probably correct about the show in Denver.  We are not expecting too much.  Kari really just wants to see what it is like inside of a RV (especially a class C) and whether we think we can spend a year traveling in one.  In any case it would be so much nicer than car camping our way around the states!

Kevin,

Email me at rick-home at msn dot com and we'll work out the details of when you can see our RB.  Talk to you soon.
