Going to Naples, Florida from Biloxi, Miss. Has anybody traveled down the Gulf side of Florida to Naples? How difficult(time consuming) is it vs. the interstate? Any comments appreciated.

Hi Straf:
We did it in 2000.  We were in no hurry, but I don't recall it being as bad as Scott remembers.

What we remember is buying ultra-fresh shrimp from the shrimpers in the Panhandle, camping on the Sawanee and being delighted by the manitees, and the beautiful shore sights.  If it were too slow, I'm sure I would have remembered since I have a short fuse for slow traffic.

Good luck

Straf, Drop down out of Pensacola to Pensacola Beach and pick up route 399 and go east to Navarre. 399 runs the length of Santa Rosa Island and then back to the mainland and US 98. There is a one dollar toll bridge off the island. The drive is through a national seashore, and, IMHO, well worth the detour. If you are in no hurry follow US 98 on around the edge of the gulf. You will pick up a lot of traffic in this area if you stay on US 98. If you want to go back up to I-10 and bypass the congestion of Fort Waldon Beach and Panama City there are several ways to go, just pick one and head north to I-10.
Coming a little farther east pick up US 27 and head south. US 27 is four lane easy drive south, much more laid back and closer to old Florida than I-75. IMO, US 27 would be somewhat slower than I-75 but a much more pleasant drive.  Plan on picking up alt 27 at Perry down to Chiefland where you'll pick up US 19-98. Stay on 19 down to around Spring Hill where it becomes a 'zoo' this time of year with all stop and go. Head east and pick up I-75 and on south to Naples. Have a safe trip. ray, at home in Florida

I haven't made that drive for several years, but it was brutal the last time i made it.  My average speed was about 25 mph through much of the area, and even les during rush hour.  Like I said, this was several years ago, but I would not like to try it in an RV (I was in a pick-up when I did it before).
