Solid (steel, not braided) long tire stem for inner dually replacement? January 06, 2025, 07:24:41 pm Happy New Year, everyone! I had four new rear tires installed this morning at Discount Tire. When I got back to the house, I was putting the TPMS sensors back on and noticed that one of the inner dually stems was damaged at the tip of the thread and I couldn't screw on the sensor. Hard to see & hadn't noticed it when I was at the shop. I zoomed in with some pictures and there's definitely a gouge in the threads which must have happened when the tire was mounted/installed, I'm guessing. I called Discount Tire and they'll install a new stem no charge, but they only carry the flexible braided type. I've read that the solid steel ones are better, but I'm not sure where to source a replacement or even exactly what I'm looking for. I've hunted around on Google & Amazon and there's all kinds of extended tire stems, but I don't see the same type that's on there now. Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated! If I can't find the solid replacement, I'll just go with a braided one at least temporarily. Thanks! Re: Solid (steel, not braided) long tire stem for inner dually replacement? Reply #2 – January 06, 2025, 09:52:43 pm Hi Daryl. That tire looks pretty damaged! Were these solid stems mounted on that wheel? The tire techs should have found that before placing it on the steel wheel. The Borg stems you provided the link for are for the aluminum after market wheels. You don't have those. Before 2008 the steel wheels had eight round holes. 2008 and newer had oval hand holes (4 of them) on the steel wheel. Us with older rigs have 8 smaller round holes.. This is the source I have on record (archives). DL1EC Chrome Duallyvalve Kit They reference older wheels 1992 through 2007. RonB
Re: Solid (steel, not braided) long tire stem for inner dually replacement? Reply #3 – January 07, 2025, 11:41:59 am Hi Ron, Thanks, yep that looks like the one! I couldn't remember "Borg" which is the parent company of your link to Your Tire Shop Supply website. It doesn't look like I can just order the long stems, only the complete kit, so I'll have spares. Will get that ordered & Discount Tire will install it and hopefully be good to go :-) Yes, the long stem was mounted on that wheel that had the tire blowout. Daryl 2 Likes
Re: Solid (steel, not braided) long tire stem for inner dually replacement? Reply #4 – January 07, 2025, 01:07:41 pm Give Borg a call and order the long stem shown in the kit. Discount Tire broke one of our stems and Borg provided the replacement. I ordered two stems to have a spare. It is easy to bend or break the long stems when the tires are replaced or rotated.Larry

Said their warehouse was closed for inventory for a couple days, but he had one replacement stem in stock & is shipping out today :-) daryl 3 Likes
