Cab door power window quit working December 17, 2024, 08:28:34 pm Power Window failure; At the last Caravan Club meeting in Desert Hot Springs the LD camped next to us, had a failure of the power window just as they got off the freeway near the campground. The window was all the way down, and refused to go up. A 2005 MB, on the driver side. We took off the door panel, and the small cable that pulls the window up had broken. We got the window up, and duct taped it in place, so the residents could heat/cool the motorhome and drive home safely. Other members of the club related similar experiences. Our archives have very few instances of failure. Driver’s window dropped down Larry's comment fit. The LD Companion has a fairly detailed description of the repair. The part is surprisingly inexpensive: A Dorman at $35 to Motocraft at $71. More Information for MOTORCRAFT WLRA55 Screws are needed to replace the pop rivets that have to be drilled out. I'm sure that youtube or other internet resources are available. At that same club meeting another member (with a new to him 1999 LD) had no power window or door lock action on either cab door. He mentioned that youtube comments pointed to a ground wire in the flex cable from body to door being broken. Broken by repeated door opening/closing. The ground was missing in the driver door wiring harness tested at the switch harness. Evidentially that ground is passed back to the passenger door, so it could be disabled by the driver. So the passenger window and door lock didn't work also. We didn't finish trouble shooting. I'm confident that a new ground wire passed through the bundle between the under dash and door body (driver side) will fix that issue. RonB 4 Likes
Re: Cab door power window quit working Reply #1 – December 18, 2024, 01:25:21 am We have had two failures of the driver's window lift mechanism in our '04, one where the cable broke, and the other the plastic retention notch holding the cable at one end broke. Have been careful since the second to keep the tracks the glass slips through clean and dry-lubed.Steve 2 Likes

Re: Cab door power window quit working Reply #4 – December 18, 2024, 01:49:24 pm The dreaded power window problem. Both of our LD's power windows have broken the cable that controls the window's rising and lowering. It never happens when you are home. The fix is to replace the entire power window drive, which is held in with large rivets that can be difficult to remove. I needed to use a Dremel to cut the rivets. Some rivets can have their center pins punched out and drilled out..Installing the new power window with lock nuts, bolts, and washers is simpler than rivets. While being a DIY project, it is somewhat difficult, requiring pulling the door panels. The insides of the door have many sharp edges that can cut, wearing lightweight gloves can help. The 3-IN-ONE RVcare Window & Track Dry Lube works fine. I found a can of it at Walmart last year. It's a light dry lube that is not sticky when dry.Larry 3 Likes

This is one case where I'd buy the OEM part even if it is 2x the price. Rock Auto is my go-to as well.Luckily, Motorcraft power window assemblies are still available from Rock Auto for most older rigs.Besides having a large assortment of parts and manufacturers, at reasonable prices, Rock Auto is a great place to research technical data on potential purchases and upcoming projects. I find the site's ancient software as easy to navigate as any newer auto parts site, perhaps easier. Newer isn't necessarily better. They got it right early on and left it alone.Rock Auto has listings for the E450 and beyond, but many auto part sites do not show E or F series parts past the lighter E350 m and FG350. Rock Auto has listings for up to F750s and F53s (Ford's Class A MH chassis)My only gripe with Rock Auto is the sometimes limited range of recognizable manufacturers, leading to searches outside the site to see what other manufacturers offer.I mourn the decline of the old Napa Auto Parts, once my source of parts knowledge. When Napa switched to computer catalogs, instead of paper, much knowledge was lost. The consumer web catalog access shows very little of what was available in the past, including any listing for E450s. For whatever reason, if you need parts for your E450, you must either call or go to a Napa dealer to see what they have available. My old Napa catalog collection took up 2 feet of shelf space, it became useless years ago.Larry 3 Likes

Re: Cab door power window quit working Reply #8 – December 24, 2024, 01:30:31 pm I replaced my driver's door window motor with this:Amazon.com: Garage-Pro Front Window Regulator Compatible with Ford Econoline...Been working well with no issues since Sept 2020 with no issues. Installed fairly easily, as others have said removing the rivets is the hardest part. I simply drilled mine out. As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.
