Skin corrosion cancer of LD aluminum panel from inside out
Surfaced about a year or two ago, there are several corrosion spot on the aluminum body panels of my 2004 MB. These spots are vertically aligned with the wood beams in the body structure. I suspect these corrosion spots are caused by the steel nails used to build the frames, some of them were nailed too hard and their tips touch the aluminum panels from inside, causing electrochemical corrosions. Has anyone else seen these. I have two sets on each side. Any way to fix them without totally repaint the body? Thanks.

Hello,newbe here...wis.
Im sure the topics are all fun but our 1990 needs work before the road. How do i find specific help pages?
interior lights..350 idle issues....wipers??
what do the 2 switches just inside the door do?
If i could find the checklists that tell what to look for first in order of most likely fixes ,that  would be great!
Ive only so far been able to find lots of upgrade advice. That would be great Once Things Are First Working!!

I have found several LDs with skin corrosion caused by contact with staples and other hardware.beneath the aluminum skin.
The caused has been obvious when carving away corrosion and finding a hidden steel fastener.
You may have determined the cause. Now to fix it.

Hi Cush; and Welcome to the Forum.  You'll find plenty of comments on almost anything.  Use the cursor and rest it on "COMMUNITY". A drop down menu will appear and the second item down will be "SEARCH".  Click on that and enter a word or words that you want to search for.  You'll see many responses, some will be pertinent, some not. Many times the answers you are looking for will be earlier or after the part of the threads that the search function will locate.
In addition, a blog called the " Lazy Daze Companion" is available on the banner page, The Lazy Daze Companion   and will have pertinent posts about owning a Lazy Daze. A page locator will show topics covered. You will find articles of interest, that might help you fix things on your 'new to you' motorhome.    Does 'wis' mean that you are in Wisconsin?    Filling in the questions in your profile, to identify the year, chassis, and floorplan, would help anybody trying to help answer your questions.    RonB

This brings up a suggestion I've made before: "SEARCH" should have its own icon on the navigation bar, rather than be hidden on the HOME menu. It's a function that's frequently used, and shouldn't require digging through menus to find it.

Hi Andy, and others;  At the far top right corner of the Header line, next to "MY ACCOUNT" I have a green 'plus' sign. Resting the cursor there shows "Shrink or expand the Header". I believe that Expanded is the default.  Clicking on that  to expand the header will also show the same "SEARCH" function available in the pull down "community" menu, but more directly.   I'm always in the 'Shrink Header' mode, so I don't see it very often.  RonB

OK, now I feel very stupid. The search box was there all along, albeit only on the homepage. I don't see it on any pages inside the forum. And on the homepage, it's gray on gray, and is so faint that apparently I never noticed it. Duh!

I still feel that it ought to be an icon (or text) in the navigation bar that appears on every page of the forum. Why make users return to the homepage every time they want to search?

Here's what I see in Safari/Mac and Firefox/Mac.

This isn’t intended to be make Andy feel stupid day, but I see the search in the upper right on every forum page I visit.

That said, I still go to the home page for most searches out of habit as the search function is location specific:

If I’m on the home page, it searches all the forums

If I go to the top of LAZY DAZE TECHNICAL, search only looks at that subforum

If I go to a specific post, the search looks only at that post

Yeah, it took me a while to grok that one.

I dont like the LD manual I have.It seems like cartoons and stuff like "just flip the switch and it will work "
ah ah what switch?wheres the switch? Dumb manuals always lead you  assuming your halfway there already.
Heres my work list..
1. idle doesnt(sometimes works but I lose all  power steering and brakes if it quits!?
2. Are all the inside lights 12v? I thought the manual said they switch to 110 v when plugged in or visa versa?
3,inverter is giving off heat
4. speedometer doesnt work(I ordered a combo GPS speedometer,compass,clock.$27.Supposedly the clock comes on at stops.
Yes thats me with Shatner
thanks for any help!!

Hi Cush;  Lets start with concern #2.  All of the interior lights are 12 volts dc.  They work off of your house battery. An exception to this is your florescent lights. Each fixture has an internal inverter to take 12vdc, supplied to the fixture, and light standard 120vAC florescent light bulbs. When plugged in to shore power, or with the generator running, the converter charges the batteries and provides extra 12 volt current to run your 12v lights, water pump, space heater (propane), electronic control of your refrigerator, tank and propane levels, etc.
Issue #3; the inverter is a converter. It converts 110VAC to 12v dc. By common convention, an inverter takes battery power, 12vdc, and turns it back into 110VAC. Both conversions are not 100% efficient, so both inverters and converters lose energy and get hot. Most have fans to prevent damage to electrical components, by moving air around. That also wastes power.
Issue #4;  You haven't told us what year you Lazy Daze is, whether it is Ford, Chevy, or Dodge. If the speedometer doesn't work, you can buy new, rebuilt, or junk yard donor parts.
Issue #1; We can't help much if we don't know what type of a chassis you have or what year.  All (most) larger modern cars, (except much newer ones with electrically assisted power steering), rely on the engine to provide power assisted steering. They also provide vacuum, stored in a tank to assist 'power' brakes. This is very common. Some Lazy Dazes use hydraulically assisted brakes. More powerful than vacuum assisted brakes.  My 1968 Volkswagen did not have power assisted brakes or steering. (Well...arm and leg power assist) Some cars in the older than '80's era did not have power steering.
I suspect all of your motorhome sized vehicles have both power steering and brakes. If the engine isn't running, no you don't have power steering or brakes.  You should probably find a good mechanic to get your engine idle problem fixed.  RonB

Further to what Ron said: if your engine quits when it should be idling, you need to see a mechanic. In an older (Chevy or Dodge chassis) Lazy Daze with a carbureted engine, this probably means a carburetor or choke adjustment is needed. In a newer model, I'm not enough of a mechanic to know. But this is an engine problem that definitely needs to be fixed. If the engine stalls at a traffic light and you cant get it restarted, you'll be in a pickle.

As Ron said, we need to know what year and model you have to provide more specific advice.

"An exception to this is your florescent lights."

Just to clarify, your fluorescent lights run on 12 VDC. Ron's right about their internal circuitry, but as far as the coach wiring is concerned, they are 12 V lights, powered by your house batteries, just like all your other lights.

It’s on every page of my MacBook or iPad (safari or chrome), but not on any page on  iPhone (never has been on any page)

Using Firefox on a Mac, I see the search function on every page, as long as I have the window sized wide enough. If I narrow the window, the search function disappears.

I just tried it on Safari, and the same thing happens.

Thanks, Jan! I found that if I stretch the Safari window to 1,680 pixels wide, the SEARCH box suddenly appears. I normally keep my browser windows at about 1,100 to 1,200 pixels wide, so they're the same aspect ratio as a sheet of paper, as I find text more readable that way... but at that width, the search box never appears. (Typographers' rule of thumb for best readability: 45 to 75 characters per line.)

I apologize for dragging this thread way off topic! Now back to our official subject: aluminum skin corrosion.

Thanks for the help! My profile page only lets me  put in year ,length, rear bath.No options for chev/ford or engine.Maybe I can add this
info somewhere else?
I have chev van 30.Im pretty sure its 350,5.7 TBI.Research Ive done says the 1990 5.7 is idle adjusted by a screw in(1.25 socket)idle valve with electric control.NO IDLE SCREW.Installed a new one($10 amazon) and its now only stopped a couple of times.I filled with non oxy gas since this rig sat for years.
Heres my next fix. Speedometer doesnt work . I bought a dash mount gps speed/compass/clock.  But if anyone has a likely fix, thank you.
Next toy will be an ebike! mounted on back. Not a big wheel ride along the cliffs bike, just a bike path rv park to the store model.
Anybody had a good or bad brand? Im amazed I found a $300 model on amazon.
Thanks again everybody ,Im now going to our little town summer festival....Adult soapbox derby in Cushing Wis.
