Power Steering Fluid
I want to flush my power steering system. The book calls for Mercon V. I used Mercon LV in my transmission and have a couple of quarts left over. Is is compatible? Thanks.

I can't answer your question on what the difference is or if Mercon LV is acceptable.
The Owners Manual suggestion is a good place to start, it's only a couple of quarts of fluid.

Our 2003 Owners Manual says to use transmission fluid, since I run synthetic transmission fluid, I have also used it in the power steering system for the last 50,000 miles without issues.

While you are at it, consider adding filters to both of the return lines, I use Magnafine filters.

I have used a power steering filter since the LD was new, for 147,900 miles without any problems with the power steering and brake's hydraulic system.
The same type of filter is used on the transmission cooler's return line, the transmission's internal filter is very coarse and does not filter fine particles or metal fragments.
