Rear Suspension Torque Specs July 01, 2024, 04:26:56 pm I removed my rear sway bar to get better access to the differential in order to change the oil. Anyhow, I noticed that the end link bushings had just begun to harden and were pretty deformed. I bought new ones from RockAuto and now I'm wondering about the proper torque. I'm coming up with 35# for the bracket bolts and either 80# or 52# for the end links. The bracket number seems low and the end link real high. Has anyone done this job? One other thing. In replacing suspension bushings in the past, I've always gotten rubber and the rubber has been relatively soft. The ones I have from RockAuto are rubber but they are hard. I've bought lots from RockAuto and have always been happy with their stuff. Thanks.jor
Re: Rear Suspension Torque Specs Reply #1 – July 01, 2024, 04:36:44 pm I know it's 'wrong', but I go with judgement and tight enough on these. I've broken parts (including a front shock mount stud bolt on my RV) chasing torque specs on an older rig. There's a fine line between preventing problems and causing them, especially with older rigs.Rich
Re: Rear Suspension Torque Specs Reply #2 – July 01, 2024, 05:10:07 pm Those blue bushings look like polyurethane... they are definitely "hard" and in my experience can be somewhat "harsher" than rubber bushings in terms of noise and vibrations... the fact that they have less "give" is usually better for performance though. Here's a link to an article that give a pretty good explanation: What Are the Pros and Cons of Polyurethane Bushings? 1 Likes
Re: Rear Suspension Torque Specs Reply #3 – July 01, 2024, 05:38:57 pm QuoteHere's a link to an article Enjoyed the article. Thanks, Mark. In reviewing my order I see that the bar to frame bushing is described as rubber but the end links are not. I bet you are correct that they are poly. I'm going to install them and see how it goes. Thanks.Rich, I'm still hoping someone can come up with the spec but if not I will proceed with confidence and elan!jor
