Accordian door latch broken October 13, 2023, 03:13:59 pm [Post pulled out of Yahoo Archive board. The Archive board is static and not for new posts. I created this new topic to help the poster. The latch on my new-to-me 2008 MB seems to be broken - it doesn't catch when pushed onto that knob thingy on the wardrobe. The latch mechanism is riveted to the door so I can't take it apart to see if something can be done with it. Has anybody else had this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Or did you just rig up some other way to keep the door shut? I've thought of Velcro but don't like the idea of how it would look on the wardrobe.... Any other suggestions? The final option is just to take the thing down and put up a tension rod with a fabric curtain.Mary Lou Knack 2008 27' blue MB (Planet Lulu according to my partner, but he's yet to be converted)Bumping this thread, because I have the same issue and can't find an answer. The latch on the accordion door stopped latching. Suggestions? Rich
Re: Accordian door latch broken Reply #1 – February 28, 2024, 03:57:10 pm Following up in case someone else has the same issue. The pleated accordion door latch consists of 2 parts - a white plastic stud on the wall side and a plastic catch inside the door itself. If your stud breaks or wears down, you can replace that part alone. You can test this by removing the stud, rotating it 90 degrees, and seeing if the latch will now catch. The latch grabs at the top and bottom. Similarly, you can test the function of the latch by unscrewing the stud from the wall, inserting the catch into the latch by hand and twisting the stud while trying to make it catch. If the stud seems fine, the plastic latch inside the door is probably broken. You can buy a replacement part, but the latch in my 2003 is riveted into the door at the midpoint and there isn't an easy way to remove and replace. You could potentially drill out the rivets, let the latch fall out, and then rig up a series of wires or string or something to position the new latch as you replace the rivets. In my case, I will just buy a new door from RecPro. They come in different widths, and the 48" width seems correct for my mid-bath unit where the door measures 45" extended across the space. I'm also motivated to replace as our door is stained and worn in a few places. The 75" height matches what I currently have. My small dog will appreciate that, as he uses the flexibility in the pleats to sneak under the door and move freely about the rig even with the door closed (one source of wear!).
