World's fastest RV, only $199,995!
Tesla delivered their first Cybertrucks this week, all suspiciously without even a single Tesla logo.
They are blindingly fast. The 3-motor version will do 0-60 in only 2.5 seconds (not a typo). Off road, it can lift its body tor more than a foot of ground clearance. You'll have to buy a spare wheel and tire; doesn't come with one.
It costs $120,000. And its simple, straight lines are begging for the addition of a lightweight aluminum camper shell, since the bed comes with several 120V high-amp outlets, for a heater, stove, fridge, etc. The bed is 6' long, 8' with the tailgate down. Add $16,000 for a second battery, to extend the range to 450+ miles. In the worst freezing muddy weather, you'll still get 250.
Even with the camper shell (see sketch), you'll still go 0-60 in about 4 seconds, on the road. And always have enough torque to blast out of sandtraps, with its all-wheel drive. Overall cost? I'm guessing a little less than $200,000. Worth doing? Will be for somebody. The power, the speed!

Already a few add ons out there, like a tent or popup, 5k to 25k.

Dave -- so, about $150K for the $120K truck plus tent and tax... getting there! And both those tents look so aerodynamic... leave them up while driving? Probably not, which gets us back to an aluminum camper shell. Lazy Daze not with us anymore, will Airstream step up to the plate?

Actual price for Cybertruck is $100,000 for the fast Cyberbeast model (3 motor), and $80,000 for the two motor slightly longer range model, so the $120,000 price would be the beast with the extra battery.

instead of dreaming ..... we have this electric truck for for at least three years in the market  K270E / K370E | Kenworth and I do believe non electric version is most popular chasis for patagonia from GXV .. as for pricing ... yes it is expensive ....
I did talk to GXV couple of weeks ago and my timeline is three years down the road and Rene (GXV coowner/Sales rep) told me that Hydrogen engine is a reality. I will have to see it to believe it ...

Coming back to Tesla electric truck, it was noval when protyped was presented 3-4 years ago but three US major truck manufacturer did pretty good with catching up and their products are in par with Tesla.

I am not fan of Tesla founder but I must accept his execution with new technology introduction in Tesla cars, SpaceX and Setellite Communication is superb ....

Muhammad -- in 2017, I moved to Tombstone from San Diego. And a year before that, somebody put in a car hydrogen refueling station at Carmel Valley Shell, on Carmel Valley Rd at I-5. Back then and probably still today, the State was trying to promote hydrogen, and several car companies, like BMW, Honda, Hyundai and Toyota made small numbers of hydrogen cars that you could lease, not buy. There was a blue 'pump' on the north side of the station lot, and a square white building behind that generated or stored the gas. It worked like a regular gas pump... put the nozzle in the car... and then the gas would come in until the car's tank pressure was equal to the building's pump pressure. Back then, anyone who leased a car got hydrogen free during their lease. It seemed to be safe enough... maybe safer than gasoline? And the mpg was almost as good as gas... but at that time, there were very few hydrogen stations in California, and probably none anywhere else.

Here's a Google Earth picture of the station...

thanks for sharing the attachments, I never saw hydrogen filling station before.

on a serious note, we havnt solved the issue of diseal yet, each country and each continent has a different standard and a global expedition can not rely on diseal truck unless of course illegally deleting diseal exhaust system .... working on this issue for few days and only solution i have is Isuzu NPR which comes with gasolin engine as well .... barely powerful enough to take Bliss Mobile 15 ft box other option is to delete exhaust system on a more powerful truck and be more comfortable in a bigger box.

Ford has pretty nice gas engine but support outside the US/Canada is next to none ....

perhaps when I am ready, we can just put in water and engine can extract hydrogen from the water ...

Mo -- good thinking. A small gas, diesel, or electric motor could run an onboard hydrogen generator. So you are talking about a hybrid... payoff being less pollution. Good idea!
And on a Class C or larger RV chassis, there would hopefully be enough space and weight capacity to carry the hydrogen generator. We should tell Elon Musk about your idea!

Digression?

There are two issues production and transportation. As for production with the green energy investment and subsequent innovations we are seeing lithium and nickel batteries in the context of RV. I hope or perhaps dreaming by the time I am ready to buy energy hungry truck hydrogen production technology and cost will improve.

I am not sure about how hydrogen transportion will be economical ....

Not sure about your background but I am computer and finance person and can stretch to civil engineering. Industrial engineering is not my strength.

There’s at least two truck’s running in the Dakar rally that are burning 50% hydrogen with diesel and plan to improve the ratio.

Mo -- you're my expert about this stuff... my background's in advertising and PR, then web design after the internet came along... and retired now in southeastern Arizona.

Olde -- am imagining the Dakar Rally, with the two hydrogen trucks following a large dirigible, air-to-ground refueling, as amazed lions, leopards, and occasional hyenas watch in wonder...

How’s about we slow down the search for what sometimes sounds like unobtainium and try something that works.
Tom Ogle drove from El Paso Texas to Deming New Mexico and had lunch in the holiday inn then drove back to El Paso on a gallon of gas. 6 months later he was found dead in the desert and his technology vanished into the ? This was in the late 60s.

no harm having some fun ....

and Jon, when and how I become hydrogen fuel expert !? I am very focused on a) convincing my wife to take the risk of going for 6-8 year long trip in 2027, news and social media shows world a very dangerous place but in reality it is more safe than ever. Getting a yes from her will solve 99.9% of my issues. b) looking into expedition vehicles options, at this point EC, and Bliss Mobile (smaller model which can be carried by Straya)  ... Global Expedition Vehicle also tick most of the boxes but they are heavy and need dieseal truck but I am not willing to touch dieseal filter and low sulphur diseal is still far from reality in lot of places but still have couple of years before I write first check and new products are coming out very oftern and I am watchinmy eyes open for carbon molded products, and no, earth roamer is too big and heavy for where we want to go and of course, American truck and diseal is not desireable ... one option I am looking at is Nimble which can fit into powerful ford gas engine on f550 but servicing ford outside us/canada is a questionable c) watching stock marking like a hawk to be able to buy vehicle and finance the trip d) replace curret home with a small base in Delaware or in Montana or perhaps in Alaska, still not albe to take out ice cap mountains and green and blue water out of my head ... these states have no sales tax and expedition vehicle with truck are expensive, putting bit into sales tax saving will get me small base and my estimate of current home real estate and maintainance saving plus oppertunity cost of proceeding of current home will be around 100K/year and we will be out for few years, does not make any sense to keep the home empty and we are not into renting. I know there are ways to register vehicle in states with no sales tax but I willl not do anthing unethetical d) sketched rough route but need to put in more details slowly but keeping it flexible as world situation change border close and opens e) need to learn the mechanics of exporting the vehicle and shipping etc. Already spending lot of time reading internaltional expdition travel logs and spending time on expedition portal. In the mean time life goes on .... son is getting married in few weeks, newfound land trip in few Months and perhas a loop to south in Fall and winter .... actually cannot complain, life is good and now addtional responsibility of Hydrogen fuel expert :-) Thanks Jon ... plan is plan till executed. Still recovering from last infusion and planning on driving around the world but i was dreaing about rving when i was stuck the bed for seven years.

Mo - Happy New Year! Looking at Youtube today, found a video about an electric bus with huge solar panels and Tesla batteries.
https://youtu.be/mOPmppKJXYA?si=7jiov2wFmNFaKl_i
Most of the video is about two people traveling in their van... the solar bus part starts about 1/3 of the way in.
What I learned is that there is no free lunch. The bus is very heavy, and takes a long time to charge up to go a short distance. Costs a lot for all the solar stuff, too.
Gasoline for me!

10% charge in the winter is great, implies 20% in summer, so you can move every five days, pretty darn good for a huge heavy converted bus.   Generates enough power for an off grid house while you’re parked there.
