Series vs. Parallel September 29, 2023, 06:01:25 pm I'm installing solar (800 watts, 60 amp controller, 300 ah lithium). I'm trying to decide on the panel configuration. What are you guys doing: series, parallel or combination?jor

It helps to minimize voltage drop, obviously. This hybrid approach also reduces the effects of shading on one or two panels, which can otherwise be a problem with an all-series hookup. 1 Likes
Re: Series vs. Parallel Reply #4 – September 30, 2023, 02:14:48 am With that much wattage, series-parallel wiring is the best choice and it allows for expansion, most larger solar controllers allow 36 and 48-volt inputs. Upgrading to 4-gauge wires for the lead-in to the controller and then down to the battery is about the largest wire that can be easily fed down through the roof to the controller.It will be interesting to see how this works with the 12-volt refrigerator in mid-winter, the time of year many have trouble keeping their batteries charged. Right now I've got it running off a battery in my front room to make sure it works before I squeeze it through the window. I figure we could always add one more 100ah battery if need be.
