FordPass app and the Telematic unit
Does anyone use the FordPass app with their motorhome and if so what data does it give you access to?

I've been going around and around (long story) with the Ford dealer. I can't activate my 2021 via the app and was finally told the Telematrix unit isn't active in all E-450s after being told my unit was bad. Again, a long story but I'm having trouble believing them. I swear I could activate and view data about the vehicle but at 6,000 miles it stopped working.

I can see gps data, tire pressure, gas level, and oil life. I had a dealer tell me that was not possible when my telematics unit went bad. Also Ford told that dealer the unit was not in my e450. Had a better dealer replace it.  I have a part number if you need it, but you will have to find a dealer that will be willing to replace it despite their "knowledge" that there is no such thing in the e450.

My original modem worked for 10 months and then went bad.

They did replace it and it still won't activate. Ford told Kearney Mesa Ford in San Diego that the E450s don't have an activated Telematic. Kearney Mesa Ford then told me that and dropped the issue. I've been at this since April 2022.

It's called Telematic or Telematrix?
Yes a part number may be handy. Thanks

Part number is KC4Z14H092E Module Cell Telematics.

Ford also told the dealer I went to in Detroit that there was no modem and it couldn't work, even though it had been working for 10 month already before it failed.

Truck City Ford in Buda/Austin TX replaced my modem and called Ford to check on some settings and they were told the same thing by the Ford tech support. Truck City tech Randall Dowell got it working.

The Ford Motor Corporation not knowing the vehicles they produce is quite frankly disgusting.

I have a 2021 LD but I don’t know if it meets the requirements for FordPass.  Actually I’ve never heard of FordPass before this posting, so I downloaded the app and thought I’d give it a try anyway.  It registered ok but just sat there trying to activate.  Where is the Module Cell Telematics located?  This would at least tell me if it’s even possible.  Thanks.

When I try to activate I immediately get this:

It's located behind the passenger side dash I think.

FWIW - You've likely tried this, but here's how the system is supposed to work.

Pulling the negative battery cable for 10 minutes did the trick for multiple people in this thread:

If FordPass is similar to what Jeep installed in our 2020 Wrangler, the original service runs out after one year and must be renewed (read expensive). It was not renewed and I can't see much of a downside.
Jeep also want over $100 a year to update the near useless GPS...that's not going to happen either.
These are nice profit centers for the auto manufacturers.

I did not know about FordPass before an email from Ford. You do earn some $ registering your truck. I registered before pre trip maintainance and following oil change in Fairbanks, I saved around $20. I do not recall any issue registering.

On related topic, not sure how many folks are aware of ford extended coverage. They quoted me $4400 to extend 3 year coverage to 10 years (or 100K, whichever comes first). I usually self-insured myself and do not pay attention to extended warranty. Reading Linda's message about few things stop working and Dave check engine light issue I am wondering if I should buy extended warranty.

Other factor is my dream of going international and in that case most probably, I will be selling motohome right after this trip within original warrenty period and pass this decision to new owner and save 4400 towards expedition vehicle.

Edit: after sleeping on warrenty extention decision, I decided to go with it. I quoted number incorrectly it is around 4200 (with NJ tax) not 4400 and come with 3.5 years free financing, auto monthly billing. I have 31500 on odometer and this oppertunity will be gone once I hit 3600. First time I bought extended warrenty and guess it reflect strange emotional attachment to a machine and our confidence on coach quality). This cover us for additional 7.5 years for an average 10K miles a year (reasonable annual miles after initial RV excitmenr). As for international dreams, been working on it for quite some time and it will save us lot of time and money to fly to the region we want to explore and rent an rv for few months or weeks. No shipping, local insurance and we can make quick decisions. Just FYI and hope will help fellow LDO members in my shoes.
