Washing the rig August 16, 2023, 11:37:09 am (I looked for an existing topic, but didn't see one other than "Washing and Waxing " in the Yahoo archive. If there's a better place for this one, or if it can be merged with an existing topic, please go ahead.)While idly browsing Kickstarter yesterday, I ran across a project called "Rubbit" [sic] that's supposed to be a better way to wash a vehicle without hosing it down. The basic kit consists of a sprayer, a bottle of supposedly special detergent concentrate, and a few microfiber cloths. "Spray it on, wipe it off" is the claim.Now, microfiber cloths are a dime a dozen, and I doubt there's really anything special about their detergent. But the sprayer interests me, because it shoots a vertical fan of foam. I haven't seen one with that ability before. But it doesn't look like anything special... so I'm wondering whether anybody has seen a sprayer with those two characteristics: 1) shoots foam 2) in a vertical fan.

However, I should have emphasized that what interested me about the Rubbit kit, and the use case I'm looking at, is washing a rig without using a water hookup. As a full-timer and frequent boondocker, that's what I'd like to be able to do. 3 Likes

I'll post an update once I get it and try it out. I'm still trying to decide what to spray with it. The Rubbit detergent claims that you can spray it on and then wipe it off, with (this is the key) no rinsing needed. I need to find something like that.

After reading those reviews, I'm going to take your advice and buy the Aero Cosmetic Wash Wax All product. I do remember seeing that recommended in the Yahoo Lazy Daze group many years ago.I won't have the "Mingle" foam sprayer until I return to Arizona in November, but I'll use the Wash Wax All hand sprayers meanwhile. I'll post an update in a few months, once I get the foam sprayer. It should cover a much larger area than the hand sprayers that come with the Wash Wax All bottles, so it ought to make application go faster. Amazon.com: Optimum No Rinse Wash and Shine - ONR Car Wash, New Formula...Absorb cleaning fluid & gently scrub a four to five foot square area of vehicle with a sponge - I like this one as it has lasted four years washing all of our vehicles. Amazon.com: Optimum Big Red Sponge - Original BRS - Large Car Wash Sponge,...I also store the cleaning liquid in a bucket with the false bottom below, sealing with a lid. I can use the same bucket of fluid several times before changing. This false bottom allows sediment to settle to bottom of bucket avoiding contact with sponge while washing. With one exception. The bug buster pad is not friendly to most car's clear coat. It badly scratched one of our cars. I did use it on an older car. But that car's paint was in generally good condition. The damage can be buffed out but that reduces the thickness of a clear coat. The Wash/Wax (blue stuff) worked very well and the mark remover (pink stuff) was incredible at removing the black streaks and most bug stains. I used the above mentioned pad only on glass after that. It did a great job of removing baked on bugs. If you purchase the kit it comes with a telescoping arm that is very strong. There is really nothing quite like that arm on the market. I am 5-6 and could wash most of the cabover from infant of the engine hood without getting on a stool. A one or two step stool allowed me complete access up to the top of the cabover. 3 Likes

It works great!I did about a quarter of my Airstream--well, the parts I could reach; I need to get up on my ladder to do some of the upper areas--and I'm extremely pleased with the results. I did windows (one glass, one plastic) too, and they look beautiful.My only complaint about it is that the fruity perfume smell is rather strong; but that will dissipate. The important thing is that I was able to do this in a remote boondock in the Rockies, and I used no water! That's exactly what I was looking for when I started this thread. I buy it by the gallon now, since I can store it. The smell isn't too bad and does dissipate quickly. Repeated use increases the shine, and it is easier and quicker to use after the first use. I was trying to build up some stamina so if you remember 'wax on/wax off; Karate Kid' I'd go out an hour before dusk/sunset and spray WashWaxAll and also use this top coat Meguiar's Ultimate Insane Shine Paint Glosser, Simply Spray on and Wipe Off.... It did help cover some sun faded streaks on the under fiberglass skirt, and the coach door. So with a 24 year old, never indoors rig, it can still shine up pretty well. I find the WWaxA works really well on the acrylic sink and counters inside, and even on mirrors. My year 'TK has the extra large mirror on the bathroom/divider door. The vinyl inserts on the doors and 'woodgrain' paneling also benefit. (the smell inside dissipates, I don't live in it). (I have no commercial connection to any of these products) RonB 2 Likes
