Summer Heat & LD August 30, 2023, 05:46:52 pm So here’s our current inside/outside temperatures (74.8 degrees & 103 degrees) at Lake Ray Roberts SP. We have 75% shade (estimate), blinds and insulation in all the west facing windows, the windshield is cover with exterior reflective insulation to include the 2 door windows, and the air conditioner is set on low fan. The AC is a 15 BTU Coleman Mach 8 unit. Margee is watching TV under a light blanket. And that’s my hot weather news. 7 Likes
Re: Summer Heat & LD Reply #1 – August 30, 2023, 06:10:43 pm A little feedback about our Coleman Mach 8 air conditioner. It’s quieter than the original Dometic but is tolerable for a non-ducted unit. Plus my poor hearing is helping to deal with the sound. Here’s 2 decibel readings. The higher reading was taken from the MB dinette table. The lower reading was taken from the lounge with the bathroom door opened to close off the kitchen area. 2 Likes

DIY job?The Coleman fits into the same opening as the original without any modifications. The air blows forward, backwards, and down controlled by vents. It was wired to the existing connections with one important exception. This AC unit does not have a wall or external thermostat. The thermostat is built into the unit and is controlled by buttons on the lower housing. (I’ll take a few pictures). As a result, the temperature readings don’t match the readings from the other internal thermometers. The other thermometers read about 2-3 degrees warmer than this unit’s readings. In addition, Coleman offers a Bluetooth app that controls the settings which is how I control the AC. (See below). The settings are low and high fan only, low and high cooling without auto shutdown and low and high cooling with auto shutdown. Please note that the base model does not include the auto shutdown settings. Now, is it a DIY? I would say it probably is for those who can somehow get it to the roof and who are also comfortable with a little electrical work. Hope this makes sense. 2 Likes
Re: Summer Heat & LD Reply #4 – August 31, 2023, 10:37:36 am Just a quick footnote. I’ve come to really appreciate the Bluetooth app. For example, late at night and I want to change the temperature, I do it from the comfort of my bed. Similarly, adjusting settings while sitting at the dinette. It’s just very convenient. 6 Likes
