Mechanic or Shop in Bay Area for differential oil change?
Hi,
Do you still go to Timmon's?  Is there any shop you can recommend?
I have spent hours searching on this forum for a shop or mechanic that will work on our 1998 MB, but I have not found one yet.  The Repair Maintenance and Service Facilities thread has shops that have changed to 10 years or newer or the shops have stopped working on rv due to space.  I wish there was a new website for the rv services review.  Joan in Sunnyvale

Hi Joan;  Are you saying that these shops won't work on older than 10 year old rigs?  I can't imagine a repair facility that would restrict business that way. Maybe they are trying to exclude the 'nearly homeless' customers?   Our database is voluntary here on LDOG, and certainly isn't a list of the only places that you can obtain mechanical services.     RonB

Finding shops that work on RVs is becoming harder each year, most shops refuse to work on them.
Changing the rear axle fluid is a messy job that requires the rear of the rig to be lifted to gain access to the differential cover and fill port. The cover should be removed for inspection and to clean the inside.

A cheap and not as-good cure is to use a quickie oil change shop. They can vacuum the old fluid out and replace it.
It's better than nothing, the other choice is to do it yourself, I changed our LD's fluid a few weeks ago before leaving for our summer trip. It's one of my least favorite jobs.

Joan in Sunnyvale,

How is it that you learned of Timmons? I know that I have posted recommendations for them on this board. Was that it?

Yes, we still patronize Timmons, although not recently, and highly recommend their work. It's a small family owned business tucked behind street front stores. They are on-line so you can reach out to them by phone and see if they can accommodate you. Tell Rodney that Steve sent you!

When I was looking for a repair shop in Eugene a month ago, several asked the year of my rig, apparently it’s becoming a thing.

I've had pretty good luck here in NH by asking around for places that work on a Ford E450. One place I've used mostly works on school buses, another one on truck fleets.

Hi Joansie,  Did you try Almaden RV in San Jose? I think I mentioned them to you in an earlier discussion, when you were looking for a shop for your engine. We switched to them when Sturkin went out of business,  and have been pleased so far.

:D  While it's quite a bit east of the San Francisco Bay Area I'll interject another very good business that the Lazy Daze folks may find useful, particularly those who will be attending the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta this fall, or at other times.

I highly recommend Statkus Engines as a full service, and competent, business.   ;D  ;D
