Compartment Latch-Clips
A couple of my clips have some minor pitting so I figured I would just replace them all. I removed the two screws and scored the paint where the gasket meets the clip surface but no go. The paint on this rig is very nice and I fear damaging it if I give it a pop. Anyone replaced these? How did it go?

Hi Jor; I long ago replaced many of mine with stainless steel clips.  But the concealed springs that pull them shut, were very rustable steel on some of them.  I had two suppliers, and the second batch have not rusted in at least the last 8 years or so. Unfortunately I don't remember the suppliers or where I got them.  My tendency now might be to pick the more expensive ones. Or a small sample of a few before going all out on one brand.   I found a 'wad' of that butyl rubber goo under each, and in the un de-burred holes. Removal didn't harm any paint. I used new SS screws this time.  The original screws weren't.  I used a thin VHB tape layer to hold them in place, caulk in the holes. No pitting since, but the clips I have now, have a duller surface finish. My '99 is a ten year older vintage than your rig, so this may have changed.    RonB

I intended to get stainless replacements but it's difficult to determine the quality. Anyhow, rather than take a chance, I just ordered a set from Todd. It's great to know that taking them off won't damage the paint. It just seems so strange to me that LD painted these rigs with the hardware already installed. The paint job is great though.

I bought the cheap ones last week and had to send them back, the first one I installed broke and when fully opened goes to 90 degrees, not enough to clear the storage door.

I bought 10 of these two days ago, they are perfect and more expensive.

Same as the originals on my 2004 MB, Aluminum FLIPPER, stainless Steel base and when fully opened, go to about 120 degrees.

Following up on this thread. I finally replaced all nine of my compartment clips. I figured I couldn't go wrong if I ordered them from LD (Todd). The ones provided looked to be an exact match except they were chrome rather than stainless. However, just as in TreeLee's case, they only opened 75 degrees or so and the compartment door would not clear. I sent them back and ordered the ones recommended by TreeLee. Stainless and a perfect fit. Todd told me he was perplexed as he has sold hundreds of the ones he sent me. I wonder if the LD relocated the clip mounting 3/4" or so in the newer models.
