New engine thermostat for 2016 V10
So……I noticed with my ultragauge that my engine coolant temp was dropping down more than 20 deg as I descended long grades. Didn’t used to do that.
So I ordered a new motorcraft thermostat from rockauto along with so other goodies.
I finally pulled the old thermostat out and examined it and found it was a 192 deg. The new one from motorcraft was supposed to the same. I pulled the new one from the unopened plastic bag and it was stamped 185 deg. I thought dang it, I want the same as original. So I head over to the local ford dealer and he looks up the proper thermostat and pulls it from stock. Exact same part number as the one from rockauto. Takes it out of the bag, it was also stamped 185 deg.
So…..I head over to Napa and buy their thermostat which is 194 deg. Installed just fine. Will need a test run to see if it runs the same, which is ~200 deg on my rig.
I’ve seen several folks on other websites claiming that the higher the engine temps, the better the fuel economy (within reason). The computer controlled engine will get get excess fuel if the computer thinks it’s not fully warmed up.
Will update when I get some more data.
