Silverton to Ouray in the Winter
If you have never driven US550 between these towns, you can see what's it like. The downhill S turns start around 15:00. This is where I drop into 2nd gear. The final decent starts around 30:00. Get a fire in the hearth and some spiced tea and watch. The color of the sky looks painted.

The snowplow drivers that keep Hwy 550 open are some of the bravest out there.
Every once in awhile, one gets pushed over the mountain in an avalanche.

Looks like that road is much better maintained than ours in the winter (not my video):

Beautiful drive, Don. I’m curious as to how you filmed it. We never saw any camera shake when you were going over rough patches. The camera pitch did change ever so slightly from time to time. Hand held?  If so, impressive!  — Jon

Greg, is that a County road or private and the HOA pays to plow?
Just curious

Hi Joel. Our roads are private and maintained by the CSD (Community Services District). They actually do a pretty good job considering there are over a hundred miles of road to plow.  If only I could get them to do my driveway! 😉
