Removing Range Top Cover
What tool do I need to remove the range top cover in my 2017 Mid-Bath?  I had Vince remove the one from my previous Twin-King which he did in a minute.  I've tried different screw drivers but I can't seem to find the right one or the right tool to remove the cover.  I've purchased a hardwood cutting board cover which I plan to use instead of the existing cover.  Thank you for any help with this.

Instead of removing the cover, leave it upright, secured with four lightweight chans.
This provides another horizontal surface, something we all need more of,

I really don't want to keep it.  I realized that I really miss the extended view from the kitchen window which the metal cover partially blocks.  I think the cutting board looks nicer than the metal top.

Monica … if I understand your question correctly, you don’t need a screw driver to remove the stovetop cover.  With the cover completely closed, simply it push it away from the front knobs against 2 flexible metal hooks and then lift the front of the cover and remove it.  I hope this helps.

(Spelling correction… lift not left.  Thanks Andy).

The procedure described by Ed & Margee is for removing the top plate of the stove--the metal plate that surrounds the burners. (In my experience, it's usually necessary to push really, really hard to unlatch the front of that top plate so you can lift--not left--it up and remove it.)

To remove the folding top cover, as I recall, you tilt it up and then wiggle and tug upward on it until it disengages--no tools required. But it's been a few years since I had one of these, so perhaps somebody else can give a more detailed description.

Thank you Andy,  Ed & Margee

I have in the past lifted the whole top like you described, Ed & Margee.  But, as Andy says, I want to remove the folding cover, not the whole top.  My LD is in the storage place now.  I will go and try Andy's suggestion in the next days and report back.  Thanks. again.

Hi Monica. I was curious as to how the top could be removed so I went out to take a look at mine. The screws that I think you are referring to are simple square head screws but they do not need to be removed to remove the cover.

With the cover in the closed position, simply pressing in on the metal tabs at the rear of the cover will allow you to remove the cover.

What we do is leave the cover in place and set a heavy bamboo cutting board on top of it, with rubber underneath to keep it from sliding. Works great as an extra work surface!

Thank you Greg & Victoria.  I followed your instructions and viewed your photos and was able to successfully remove the range top cover.  I had already purchased a wood cutting board like yours to replace the cover.  I agree they make a great top.  I like that I have a better view out of the kitchen window.  I find the wood cutting board more attractive.   I had had one in my previous 2003 Twin King.  I missed it in my 2017 Mid Bath.

I thank everyone else for their responses.
