Banana Bungee

I like having a banana with my breakfast, but I really couldn’t find a good place to put them on the counter where they wouldn’t get banged around and bruised when traveling.  So… I went looking on Amazon and found this Banana Bungee hanger.  It really is a novel way to hang a bunch of bananas.  At first I thought the $10.90 price tag was a little steep but after driving 15 miles over washboard dirt road and not a single bruised banana… well, maybe the price is not so bad.

Among several things we grow at our ranch is Florida Lady Finger bananas on trees next to a spring just below our house. They like lots of water.(see photos) Someone told us after picking the ripening fruit to wrap the stem end of a hand of bananas with plastic wrap which will slow the over ripening process. We used Press & Seal wrap which works quite well. So if I have a banana a day and have a hand of 6 bananas they will still be nice at day six. We also peel and cut up a lot of bananas to freeze to be used in frozen fruit smoothies.
