Re: Starlink internet for RVs now live! Reply #25 – August 03, 2022, 08:43:54 am I am not T-Mobile sales person, intention was to highlight options instead of compete. I hate having recurring $130+ recurring monthly bill and there may be few more like me here. Yesterdays message was from a place where cell phone was not showing any bars …. Home internet box seems to have stronger internal antenna or perhaps 5g work differently. I know starlink probably will not work in Alaska trip next year, home internet box has better chance. Folks used to change cell phone registry to use it for what T-Mobile and other phone companies start to market with higher speed and unlimited data (and did I say for $30). Again just one person’s opinion … last msg on this topic till I gain more positive or negative experience with this product.Take care my friendQuote from: Dave Katleman - August 02, 2022, 09:40:02 pmI’ve been using StarLink for the past six weeks, generally when there isn’t a decent cell signal, which has been five out of the six weeks in Wyoming, Idaho and Washington.Trees have been the primary obstacle to constant internet, but even when I see obstacle interrupts every 30-45 seconds, the speed is decent enough for downloads, web browsing and texting, which is why I got it, for locations with zero cell signal. I have experienced throttling in places like Grand Teton and Yellowstone, but that’s because there are lots of other StarLink users, so instead of 100+ Mbps, I’ll get about 10 until about 10pm, still plenty for communication and light web research.Have not attached the dish to the RV nor do I find mounting it to be a good idea, far more flexible to set it in a clearing away from the RV. I’ve ordered a new 150’ cable to extend out further than the 75’ cable it ships with, relegating the original to a backup.I have been able to Zoom or FaceTime in locations with clear views of the north sky.For my use case in the wilderness of the west, it’s perfect.
Re: Starlink internet for RVs now live! Reply #26 – August 03, 2022, 06:34:15 pm 135/month is pricey, but thankfully you can suspend service when you are at home, off the road. It’s not a competition, StarLink is great if it you want internet in the middle of no where. If I was always within boost range of a cell signal, I wouldn’t have bothered with StarLink. Like tonight I’m at Lake Wenatchee State Park in Washington. Get 50 Mbps with ATT, not even bothering to set up StarLink. As for Alaska coverage, they are expecting service up there next year:Starlink Releases an Updated Map - Anticipated RVer & Boater Destination...
