Snow Chain Alternatives
Soon enough there will be a cold snap and then icy roads and spinning wheels will be upon us.

Here for your entertainment are some interesting alternatives to snow chains and cables. How well they will work on our LD’s is questionable but those with Toads may find these “tire chain substitutes” useful.

Enjoy... https://youtu.be/chrLCKzAVVg

Think I’ll stay out of the impending cold and have a cup of coffee. Just watching these ads brings a chill to my lazy bones. ☃️

My 'snow chain alternative' is to avoid driving in anything that requires cables, socks, chains, or any other 'footwear' for my tires.  ;)

Many years ago, one of our forum members, Gus Weber reported how much he liked snow socks.
Gus lived-in Colorado and drove to the coast ever winter, to spend the holidays with family.
He had a bit of experience driving his LD in snow, so you may be interested in his experiences.

BTW, I remembered the posting and had to use the Yahoo search engine to find it, failing to find it on LDOF's search engine.

We like winter camping and have driven the LD in moderate amounts of snow, through the years, and have alway been happy with the it's ability to keep moving.  the rear dual's give better than expected traction, of course, the type and condition of the tires is also a critical component.
When prepping for winter travel, we carry a set of cables, just in case. Never had to us them but it's nice to know they are there if the roads freeze or we get trapped in a campground.

The rear wheel well does not have clearance for conventional chains, so I chose a narrow, Super Z6 cable, which fits in our LD's wheel wells

If you go this route do a trial installation at home, it's a lot easier to figure it out when you are not freezing and wet.

Kent, speaking of the changing seasons and driving in the snow, I just discovered the Canadian reality show "Highway Thru Hell" streaming on Netflix.  What an awesome show!  Pour yourself a cup of coffee and check it out if you haven't seen it.  Now in Season 6, but check out season 1, Episode 1 for lots of snow chain action!

This thread has been around a while and as it’s pretty vital for winter travel it may seem a bit out of place in July. But here it is.

These pics are intended to assist Warren to see the difference in the 2022 Super Z lineup vs my 2015 set. Here are pics of my Super Z snow cables.
