Headlamp lens cover to prevent UV damage during storage or parked in camps
A common problem LD owners face is the yellowing and hazing of headlamp lens over the years. This is due to the accumulative UV radiation damage to the polycarbonate lens material and its clear coating. The haze and yellow lenses look ugly. I used to spent a lot of time to clean up our 2004 MB lenses by polishing them and re-apply clear coatings every six month while we traveling across the country. Now we have slow down to a snowbird lifestyle, spending winter time in a Miami FL campground, put the LD in storage in Michigan over the summer months. To prevent the UV damage during these periods while the LD is not on the road, I just tape on two pieces of aluminum foil to completely cover the lamps. The foil covers block UV radiations to the headlamps which I changed in 2019 when we switched to be snowbirds. There is zero hazing or yellowing of the lamps, they just look like brand new! I hope this can help others to deal with the lamp hazing and yellowing problem if their LDs are parked for extended periods of time.

I think the lens covers are as important as the tire covers.
