Opinions? Dual hitch tow ...Motorcycle & TOAD
I would like to bring along both a motorcycle and TOAD behind our 26' rb .

This is the type set up I would like:

It is a double hitch, over and under...with the top hitch dedicated to a cycle carrier like this :

Bike would weigh in at about 500 lbs

The bottom hitch would be dedicated to the Blue Ox tied to a Jeep Cherokee

I would use something like this for over under from the stock hitch

The question is...do you think the stock hitch would handle this? Or do I need to have it replaced with some sort of frame welded mount...like this:

Thanks for any suggestions

We hauled our 350 lb Vespa 250 on our ‘06 TK for 10 years on a custom built rack similar in looks to the one you show. However, it was attached at two box tubes welded on to the LD frame, not to the bumper or the hitch. I don’t think the original LD bumper hitch will safely carry 500 lbs of bike, plus the weight of the toad carrier. Our 23’ TK exhibited a very slight front end rise from the scooter weight being carried at the rear, not enough to cause any driving issues. I suspect your 27 footer would show more rise, especially with the additional weight of the toad hitch. Bottom line, at a minimum I would explore a frame-mounted setup and would be concerned about the effects of front lift on the rig. We had our setup fabricated at Eckhart’s here in SoCal. We no longer have our scoot, so I’m pondering taking ours off. Good luck! — Jon

Jon's advice is good, this isn't a simple add-on The rear bumper and its attachment to the frame need to be upgraded.
The weight of the rack and M/C exceeds the bumper's Factory rating, plus you have the weight of the Cherokee to consider.
Is this a new Cherokee or the old-school XJ? There is a big weight difference.

This may be a case of wanting to take more than what is safe and practical.

A 500 lb. motorcycle isn't a good choice to be hauling around on a LD.
You might consider putting the motorcycle on the back of the toad if possible.
Or on a front mounted hitch.

We have a '94 LD 23.5 and did basically the same.

Had to beef up the rear hitch since originally it had a hitch ball tongue attached to the bumper which could only hold 300lbs of dead weight. The place I took it to added another sub frame and a real hitch receiver that could hold 500lbs.

I got a dual hitch receiver adapter (linked below) in order to be able to have both a light basket and a motorcycle carrier. We have a Genuine Buddy 170i (can go up to 70mph!) which is about 250lbs.

Note a couple of issues with this setup which I learned:

  • Most of the storage in the RV is in the rear and with the added weight, it may be toping the rear max weight you should carry
  • include the weight of the dual hitch adapter and bike rack and anything else into the weight you are looking to load. The hitch adapter I got is HEAVY
  • Check the tongue weight of the hitch adapter, mine decreases it to 400lbs
  • If you get a real rear hitch it'll probably sit lower than the bumper, the dual hitch adapter I got lowers the receiver even more and therefore end up scratching the floor on sharp ramps unless I come in an angle (I think the one mentioned might be better if it accommodates the space)
  • Bike will sit higher and may obstruct the rear window and taillights... Also because it's higher, getting it up the bike ramp will require you to have a long ramp and maybe even force you to mount when close to a curb

This is/was our setup. The curved upright post was used to lean the scoots’ fairing against before strapping it in. — Jon
