weBoost Destination RV

Edit: Please ignore the request for help. My solution is very clumsy .... I just put in order for StarLink and it will show up who knows when ... they just promised 2023 or beyond. Yes I tried all of my friends and family addresses without much success .... there is a map icon on the left corner of starlink page which is supposed to show where service is available but it was not much help to me.
Edit: There is a loophole where you can change the service address and get a quick delivery and doing this changed my delivery estimate to two weeks (I randomly selected one of the national park campground as service area and it worked out). Recent reviews suggest that roaming is turned on by default and I am relying on .... i will post my experience if I get the startling before upcoming trip to Alaska. I know it will not work in Alaska and am in no rush to turn off cell service yet but there is four month journey before and after Alaska and I will have enough time to check new toy in RV. We actually have a  long cruise south right after Alaska trip and it will be interesting how starlink perform during that trip as well .... cruise ship charge a lot for wifi

Hi,
I searched and got lot of information about cell boosters and folks are happy enough and installation does not look that difficult either. I am thinking about weBoost Destination RV Amazon.com: weBoost Destination RV - Cell Phone Signal Booster for Stationary... reason for this product is easy installation. Talking of installation, technical side is easy but mechanical side of installation, I have two questions:

1) Installation of pole for the external unidirectional antenna .... I am thinking about putting it left of the steps going to the roof. Since I am not planning to take the pole away, I think I will need to reinforce the pole installation by putting velcro between the pole and steps. Pole will be resting on the bumper .. when we reach to a new destination I will simply extend the pole above the roof and  before leaving I can fold it down. Taking the antenna out of pole is easy but I am not sure I will take it out, guess if pole folded length is below the roof I will just keep it on.

2) For the wiring, I am chicken and do not want to make any hole an any structure change to the motorhome. My first thought was to bring antenna wire inside from the passenger side back window but then I saw that this package come with a flat wire. I do have a passage from battery compartment to additional batteries below the fridge and I think I can permanently put he flat wire piece on top of battery door when door is close. I will need to find some hardware to attached wire securely outside the motorhome for few feet from steps to the battery compartment.

Do you see any issue with this installation?

The interior antenna needs to be mounted where you will be using your phone or device. The device needs to be within a foot or two of the interior antenna to get the benefit of the amplifier. When using my phone as a hotspot, it works best with the phone next to the interior antenna.

When building cellular antennas systems, telescoping poles work well for the directional antenna, clamped to the ladder.

Thanks Larry.

I read some reviews and this particular bundle has more powerful inside antenna. Pictures you shared is exactly I wanted to see and solution is even better instead of velcro clamps are strong.  After thinking about it issue was getting the wire in and my solution to bring the wire to the battery compartment while RV is going with 60+ mph or going on dirt road is not practical I will constantly be fighting with it .... Starlink is it for me but not sure how long I have to wait.

"I read some reviews and this particular bundle has more powerful inside antenna."

I've used four or five different Wilson cell boosters over the years, with a variety of their inside antennas. My experience has been that no matter which one you choose, it's not going to work well if the phone or hotspot is more than a couple of inches from the inside antenna... and flat up against it is best. In other words, if you buy one of these with the idea that you'll mount the inside antenna in some central location and get a boosted signal throughout the rig, you'll most likely be disappointed.

I suggest not worrying so much about roof penetrations. As Larry has pointed out in the past, your rig came from the factory with many more and larger ones than you'll ever need to make. If they can do it safely, you can. :-) Use a CableClam and bring that cable in anywhere it's convenient.

Yes I do remember Larry's encouragement and while researching this topic recall you and Larry discussed Blue Sea product in three year old thread. I am sure ultimately I will get stuck and start making structure changes but not ready for this challenge yet. For now goal is not to get stuck :-)

Be well Andy .... I was on bed for years and came across your travel log during those years .... I am not sure if you understand the impact of your writing has on few folks .... can not thank you enough. This is it, I will not bring it up again.
