Awning Quote
I went down to Girard and got a quote for a new awning. 16', a little longer than the original 14.5'. No struts, electric, auto wind retract, including installation = $3800. Hmmmm. What other options have you all found?

I’d want to know the weight of the longer awning with the electric “auto wind”. As far as I know, the Fiamma awnings that LD used/uses are relatively lightweight compared to other brands, and the mounting reinforcement on the LD *may* not be adequate to support a longer/heavier awning.

Coolaroo?

Incidentally, I noticed something the other day: CruiseAmerica rental motorhomes (at least the ones I've seen) don't have awnings. You can guess why. ;-)

Touché Joan!

When I ordered my '04 30'IB I asked Steve Newton to delete his awning because I intended to mount one of my own choosing. He wanted to know how long it would be (20') and where the mounting points would be located. I pointed it out and he said that during the build he would make sure to 'block' (reinforce) the coach at those points. Happy sailing ever since.   ;)

Here is a different type of option.  A lot lighter I suspect.

The Brits evidently have a different definition of the word “awning”.
Tiny RVs need a side-tent.

Hmm, most of them look like 'leftys'. Wonder why?  ::)

We still have our White Stag side tent that attached to our long-gone ‘74 VW van!  It was great when the kids were young. — Jon

I used a local company  ShadePro

They came out to my 1995 LD and installed it.
Great price and great service.
I think it was about $1500.

I wondered that too.  Also wondered how one would open up the tent.  On our popup (a long time ago!) we could unzip the awning before raising it.  Now sure how these would open on a motorhome.

Did I miss something? If the ‘side tents’ shown in this thread are on vehicles in the UK or Australia or NZ, the left side of the vehicle is the passenger side.

May I ask how you decided on the Girard?
Or on Shadepro?

On the ShadePro you installed, I have some questions for you.
Do you have the horizontal arms or the vertical arms? How has it held up? The horizontal arms avoid installing the vertical scissor trusses over windows, but they seem less strong as they are cantilevered from one line of attachment.
Where did you tap into 12V power?
Do you have a master power switch?
Do you have the interlock that retracts upon putting the transmission into gear?

Thanks in advance!
