The AGMs proved to be bad and none were available for replacement. So I went back to lead-acid. I found a turkey baster was ideal for topping off the water. 1 Likes

If you plan to keep it more then five years then lithium is cheaper the lead acid of any type. If less then five years then lead acid is the path to take.glen

Reply #5 – October 31, 2021, 10:09:32 am For an original, carbureted Chevy G-30 with the small alternator and oem converter, major enhancements would be needed to consider lithium. If your alternator and converter are upgraded, you have a solar with a sophisticated, modern controller, then lithium might be an option - if your rig is up for another decade or so of travel.Steve 1 Likes

Ease of use, installation, and expense; I believe the golf cart deep cycle batteries from Costco (or Sams Club?) are the best solution. Not as good as the Trojan T-105, but not as expensive either. About $200 for the pair, readily replaced and essentially a nationwide warranty. Made by Interstate, they routinely last at least 5 years. As Steve said Lithiums require quite a few modifications and are still expensive. Temperature extremes and high current demands along with careful voltage control and charging status make LiFePO4 a modification that needs more 'watching'. Needing to add water once in a while to wet lead acid GC2's or T-105's is a minor nuisance. I don't think AGM's are worth the extra cost just to avoid 'watering' maintenance. As Steve 'TK' said, I plan to keep my '99 TK going for a while longer, space is tight and weight is a consideration (E350), so upgrading to Li's was a more fun DIY project. RonB 1 Likes
