Ford Maverick as a toad
Ford is releasing a new mini-pickup, and the hybrid drivetrain version is towable 4 down.

https://www.ford.com/trucks/maverick/2022/

This isn't a replacement for a fully capable off-road 'real' truck, but it might be interesting to someone who would have purchased a CR-V type vehicle.

FWD (the AWD isn't flat towable)
3674lb Curb Weight
8.3" Ground Clearance
Price $19,995-$25,490 (and up with options)

Spec sheet:  https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/product/2022/maverick/pdf/2022-Ford-Maverick-Technical-Specifications.pdf

Only the 2.5L FHEV engine option is 4-down towable.  This combo uses an eCVT, which isn't much like a traditional CVT (no rubber bands).

Perhaps the most hopeful sign here is that more manufacturers will migrate from the CVT (not towable 4-down) to eCVT (possibly towable 4-down) as hybrid vehicles become more common.

The Ford Escape Hybrid and PHEV are built on the same platform and are also towable 4-down but with a slightly higher curb weight and slightly lower ground clearance.

Is new Maverick towable?

The new Ford Maverick is a nice looking small truck (3700 pounds) especially in the FX4 AWD or 4WD model. Anyone look into whether it is towable? TIA.

Only the hybrid FWD version is flat towable.    At least two of our forum members, parussky and linda b, have ordered one.

Details (including a spec sheet):

I haven't seen a baseplate available from any manufacturer yet, which is understandable since only a few Mavericks have been delivered.

The speculation about the tow hooks as an anchor point for the baseplate (from the forum thread linked above) is likely wrong.  This video explains that the hybrid version is missing certain structural pieces that would be needed.

This is good news as the new Ford Bronco -- a few of which are flat towable -- are quite heavy and exceed the 4000 lb limit on older Lazy Daze models.
