House Batteries … Scream
We need two (2) house batteries.  The Trojan T105s are not available around here for maybe 6-8 weeks and the not available price was $179 each.   And the stores are expecting a 3rd price increase just this year.  The T125s are available for $198 each (plus tax).   Amazon shows the T105s are not available.  Online LifeLine batteries are $400 + or - a few dollars.

Yuck is my current attitude!

I would head to my nearest Costco.  Last time I looked they had their "Golf Cart" batteries for under $100.  They are the same size and similar capacity to the T-105's.  If not a member, this might be a good time to join.

Hi Ed:  I wouldn't put much stock in the low reviews. Particularly since I don't have a golf cart.  I also do know how badly treated most of these batteries are by many RV'ers who really don't know much about battery care.  I could regale you for many minutes with what I've seen of the typical (un) care that happens in the RVing world.
They aren't T-105s. They also don't cost as much either.  I have used these exclusively since my first set of T-105's expired about 15 years ago.  What you do get is warranty service from any Costco, and a reliable deep cycle battery for at least about 5 years.  Cost per watt hour I think is lowest of anything except Lithium.  I believe that Larry W. also uses four of these batteries.   I know you live near enough to a Costco, so the non mail delivery isn't a problem.   p.s. They actually are in stock!  A friend, at my recommendation just bought a pair for his (new to him) trailer. Both out the door for $208.  Ca sales tax and battery disposal fee. You can probably pay less.   RonB

I agree with Ron.  I have used them in my golf cart as well as my LD and 2 trailers since.  I have gotten excellent service from them in each.  I am going on 6 years in my golf cart with regular use around our village.  I wouldn't recommend something I wasn't satisfied with.  YMMV, so good luck in your search.

Ed-

Here's a link to Bestconverter.com's Web page for Lifeline GPL-4CT 6V. Current price listed is $310. I do not know if that includes shipping.

I bought two each for the LD and current Class A, from Bestconverter. I did not own/have not owned either pair long enough to know their expected useful lifetime.

Yes, it's a lot of money. Yes, you should pay less over the years if you buy the Costco batteries, as the Lifelines are unlikely to last three times longer.

But, I have never once had to "maintain" them in any other way then to make sure the battery hold-downs are tight and to wipe off the dust that accumulates on top. I can turn my attention to keeping the other buckets of bolts that make up my coach in "flying formation."

As someone who has owned an LD and an SOB (Some Other Brand), I point out that LD, by making a solid, low-frills motorhome, has made it easier for LD owners to choose lower-cost solutions for equipment repair and replacement. Not so for the SOB owners, sometimes. We have to staunch the bleeding more often, which can mean paying more just so we have less to worry about later on. There's a marketing line in there somewhere:

"Lazy Daze- A Well-Built Choice for the Frugal Owner"
"Lazy Daze- We Make Them Expensive So You Don't Have To"
"Lazy Daze- The Wise Choice for People Who Have Better Things to Do Than Tinker With Their Motorhome"

and so on. Yeah, the last is a bit wordy, but you get the idea. I hope y'all appreciate the levity, and take it the way I intended it.

Hope you are able to replace your batteries without too much trouble, Ed.

This is the place that gave me information on the Trojans.  Thank you for your help.

I’ve a message to those advocates for Costco Interstate Batteries.   After weighing the pros and cons versus the relatively few days we actually dry camp in Texas I called Costco.   They only have two (2) in stock and they have a 5/21 date.  The price was $89.00 each.  They’re ours now.

I’d like to add that from a RV philosophical point of view, I agree with Mark and would have liked the LifeLine AGMs.   But right now, my wallet is recommending a compromise.

Thank you LDOF for your help 🥰.

Ed, since I just paid $185 for a shoebox-sized Duralast Gold 151R- DLG group size for my Honda Fit, I’d say you got a bargain. 🥴

Ed, we made this same decision last year.  We debated between the Costco and the Battle Born and Costco won out plus we were in Oregon(no tax).  In five or so years Maybe Battle Born will win?

Then we are in good company!  Tomorrow morning Margee and I will replace the batteries.   The only challenge will be her back hurts and my back hurts.  We'll just have to be careful.  But I will feel a sense of relief to have these new batteries installed instead of carrying those 11 year old somewhat dead LifeLines around.

Many of us have made that wallet comprise.  Good luck with them, evidently a few have had problems, but then again, some of us have found them to be a good economical comprise.  I expect you won't be disappointed.

Ed, may I suggest that if you go back to Costco with your batteries in the coach.  One of the battery guys might lift out your old ones and lift in the new ones.  My friend bought her batteries at Costco and walked around to the garage and asked one of the tecks there to help her because she had a bad arm.  They did help her, in fact they did the entire installation for her.  Maybe Margie could ask?

The deed is done to include cleaning the battery compartment, the battery tray and greasing the rails.   The tray had some surface rust which I removed.  Then I sprayed black undercoating on the bottom of the tray.  The batteries weren’t too difficult to carry as long as I didn’t bend over.   I’m certainly not as strong as I use to be 😞.

For what it’s worth, I found a YouTube video by RV Geeks that suggested taking a picture of the old batteries and cables before removing them.  In addition, they recommend make a drawing of the existing cable connections.  That video was helpful to me.

And I am very grateful for the help from this neighborhood with the battery decision.  Thank you 🙏.

Taking "before" photos of any setup, electrical, plumbing, other, that one is about to mess with is a swell idea; having the visual record of/reference to the original layout often saves one from ending up with a pile of mystery parts and a non-functioning whatnot! I know this from experience, of course!  ;)

Well, I took the senior members’ advice, and I just returned from Costco with 2 new batteries for under $200.00!!  I’m hopeful that they’ll do the trick, and I sure appreciated reading others’ experiences.
Great forum!

Your battery compartment looks AMAZING - I'm kind of ashamed of mine... :o
