Future Campground Electric Issues Coming June 29, 2021, 03:13:32 pm Here is an exert from the Tiffin forum. Campgrounds will have to upgrade electrical or install separate EV charging stations Of course, all costs will be past on the RV customers. I could see meters to track electrical use being installed. Separate charges for site, electrical and dump station (already starting I think in California). Oh boy the RV industry starting to look like the airline industry….“Interesting new campground problem coming. We are electrical contractors providing service to several campgrounds in our area. We have seen three instances in the last month where campground has requested service calls on tripping breakers that the maintenance could not fix. Turns out all three involved RV sites with Travel Trailers (30 amp/120v) and Tesla Electric vehicles . Travel Trailer being plugged into 30amp/120v plug and Tesla charger cord plugged into 50 amp 120/230v 4 wire receptacle. Same site , same pedestal. Tesla drawing approx. 36 amps on 230v. and travel trailer pulling 18 to 25 amps on 120 leg( one ac plus other house loads). Older campgrounds may have a 100 amp 2 pole breaker for normally 2 to 3 sites. With full campgrounds with limited power supplies , one can imagine how the use or misuse of electric vehicle chargers will effect low voltage and subfeed breaker tripping in campsites. It`s coming. Stay safe.”Ron 1 Likes
